The official title was rebranded as The Oscars in 2013 – changed from The Academy Awards. The Oscars are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Everyone knows the statuette as “Oscar,” but it actually has an official name: Academy Award of Merit.
Actor Neil Patrick Harris hosted the ceremony for the first time.

- Best Supporting Actor – J. K. Simmons – Whiplash
- Best Original Screenplay – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) – Alejandro González Iñárritu
- Best Animated Feature Film – Big Hero 6 – Don Hall, Chris Williams and Roy Conli
- Best Foreign Language Film – Ida (Poland) in Polish – Paweł Pawlikowski
