Following passage there are blanks, each of which has been
numbered. These numbers are printed below the passage and against each, five
words/ phrases are suggested, one of which fits the blank appropriately. Find
out the appropriate word/ phrase in each case and mark your answer.
Businesses spend a lot of time and money on choosing just the ___ (1)
name for their enterprise. But, all too often choosing the right domain name is
left for the end of the business naming process instead of at the _____ (2)
where it belongs. Your future customers have to be able to ______ (3) you on
the web. Your domain name may be sending the wrong message and ______ (4) you
business. When people are given a website and then told it’s .net or .biz, the
first thing they think is, “Oh, somebody else got the .com, huh?” Some will
even purposefully go and see what company secured .com, maybe they are the one
that they should really be dealing with. Even more damaging is the fact that
.com is everyone’s ____ (5) when typing. You may know someone’s site ends in
.net, but by default you probably often start to type .com. People are busy.
Everyone is multitasking and managing a staggering amount of information. The
____ (6) you make someone work to find you the more likely they won’t put in
the effort. While there are only so many .com addresses available, it is
unlikely that anything else will ever take the place of .com as the default
website ending for _____ (7) users. In an effort to get a website ending in
.com some business owners get cute and make up their own word. Sometimes
service providers have reasonably used their own name as their website URL, but
their name is tough for most people to spell. The problem with both scenarios
is that once someone has to ask how to spell your domain name they have already
convinced themselves it is too hard to remember. If someone has to write down
your domain name you are one lost piece of paper away from losing him or her as
a ___ (8) forever. People are not willing to put too much effort into finding
your site. There are just ______ (9) many options on the web to be bothered by
difficult to spell websites. Don’t get too cute when thinking up a company name
or domain name. Make it easy. If you want to use your own name, but your name
is tough to spell, get a simple domain that will point to your other site. For
example if your name is Christopher Zvynski, get another domain called
askchris.com that will redirect customers to your site. One company that has
built its entire business around a premium domain name that’s the obvious
choice for its category is Hotels.com. One of their recent marketing campaigns
even featured the tagline, “Hotels.com, the obvious choice”. While the space is
fiercely competitive, Hotels.com will likely always be an industry leader
because it’s name coincides perfectly with what people are likely to search for
or enter into their browsers. How much value does this kind of premium domain
name generate? Beyond being easy to find, domain names like Cars.com or
Hotels.com send a message to customers that this company understands the web
and that they have been around a while. How else would they have gotten such a
perfect name? Typical consumers are not thinking that the domain name was
probably purchased as a business cost. Customers and clients are judging you by
your ______ (10). It may have nothing to do with your quality and abilities,
but it is the way of the marketplace. Make it easy for people to find you and
you will always have eager customers.
