RBI restricted access to credit data of consumers

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked the banks and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to restrict access to consumers’ credit data on 16 September.
  • The move aims to impact the business model of fintech companies.
  • The Central bank has asked the banks and NBFCs to implement the measures in 15 days.
  • The Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005 (CICRA) violates sharing of information. RBI has warned that it will penalize the regulated entities in case of any breach.
  • RBI also asked the Banks and NBFCs to provide details of every retail loan to all four credit information bureaus namely:
  1. TransUnion CIBIL
  2. Equifax
  3. Experian
  4. CRIF High Mark
  • RBI has also sought clarity on the provisions under which the data was being shared under CICRA.

EPFO launches e-nomination facility for your PF account

  • The Employees Provident Fund Organization EPFO started online e-nomination facility on its website.
  • Filing e-nomination helps you to easily file online pension claim at the required time.
  • The nominees can easily file online composite claim in the event of demise of the EPFO member if the e-nomination has been done.
  • The name of a nominee/s, you must get your Universal Account Number (UAN), allotted by the EPFO, activated, if not done already at the EPFO portal.
  • The next step is to make sure UAN is linked with your Aadhaar. The Aadhaar, on the other hand, should be linked with your mobile number to get OTPs.
  • They provide Aadhaar number, address, date of birth, mobile number, bank account details and scanned copies of photographs of all nominees, under the new e-nomination rules.

  • India Post expanded speed post service to six new foreign destinations in Asia, Europe and South America.
  • The Department of Posts has announced commencing of International Speed Post (EMS) Service to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Lithuania and North Macedonia.
  • EMS or Express Mail Service is a premium service that enables its users to send documents.

Steel Ministry to organize a “Chintan Shivir”: Towards a Vibrant, Efficient and Globally Competitive Indian Steel Sector

  • The Ministry of Steel is organizing a day long ‘Chintan Shivir’ on September 23, 2019 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  • The Chintan Shivir aims to hold deliberations among key stakeholders to further the growth of Indian Steel industry by arriving at a strategy to make the Indian Steel sector vibrant, efficient, environment friendly and globally competitive.
  • The key objective of the day long ‘Chintan Shivir’ is to discuss opportunities of enhancing competitiveness of Indian Steel sector, facilitate capacity expansion & technology adoption, and augment demand for Indian Steel, both for domestic consumption as well as for exports.

Delhi Cabinet approves to pay fees for class 10 and 12 students

  • The Delhi Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the state government’s proposal to pay the CBSE examination fees for class 10 and 12 students of its schools.
  • The move will benefit around 3.14 lakh students of the government schools from 2019-20. The estimated cost for the project is Rs.57 crore.
  • The State government will pay the amount directly to the CBSE and the students will not have to take any burden or wait for reimbursements.

Ministry of Social Justice unveils MIS portal

  • The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has unveiled a Management Information System (MIS) for stakeholders of Accessible India Campaign (AIC).
  • It was launched by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • The MIS portal aims to bring together the nodal ministries, States and Union Territories on a single platform.
  • The portal will monitor the progress being made against each target of AIC.
  • It will also maintain all the function on the digital platform and capture data on a real-time basis. The portal has been made fully accessible for Divyangjans.

Central Railway recovers 7.88 crore fine from ticketless travellers in Pune

  • The Pune division of the Central Railway recovered Rs 7.88 crore fine from passengers travelling without tickets in last five months.
  • The rail division conducted a drive from April to August to identify ticket-less travellers on Pune-Malawli, Pune-Miraj, Pune-Baramati and Kolhapur-Miraj routes.

Delhi Police’s launches Tatpar app for citizen-centric services

  • Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal launched ‘Tatpar’ app, developed by the Delhi Police, which is a one-stop destination for access to over 50 citizen-centric services.
  • The app amalgamates all the websites and mobile applications of Delhi Police, and over 50 services which can now be accessed with a single touch in the app.
  • Through the app, citizens can navigate to their nearest police station, traffic pit and prepaid taxi booth.
  • On a single touch, the user will be provided with the directions as well as the complete contact details of the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) of a police station.

Govt inaugurates 15 power projects in Jammu & Kashmir

  • Union Power Minister RK Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik have jointly inaugurated 15 power projects and laid the foundation stone for 20 others worth 10,000 crore rupees in the state
  • Addressing a function in Srinagar, Power Minister said, the government is working to ensure 24 hours electricity supply to all the citizens of the country, including in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

  • In addition, IIT-Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) selected Hyderabad as the place to set up their regional centre to train students in AI in partnership with the State government.

UK returned the stolen bronze image of Buddha

  • London police returned the 12th Century AD Bronze image of Buddha which was stolen from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Museum at Nalanda in 1961 to the Indian High Commission.
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman handed over the statue to the Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel.
  • The 12th Century AD Bronze image of Buddha seated in the Bhumipasara mudra was stolen by the British in August 1961.

Mongolian President arriving in New Delhi on five day state visit

  • President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga is arriving in New Delhi on a five day State visit.
  • He will be accompanied by a high-level official and business delegation. Mr Battulga will be accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan tomorrow.
  • The visiting dignitary will meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Both sides will hold in-depth discussions on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues and will also review ongoing cooperation in fields of infrastructure, energy, disaster management, defence, security, culture and capacity building.

Home Minister chair the meeting of Northern Zonal Council in Chandigarh

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the 29th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council.
  • The grouping comprises states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan besides union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
  • The Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar is the vice-chairman and host of the meeting.
  • The zonal councils discuss a broad range of issues, including boundary disputes, security, infrastructure-related matters such as roads, transport, industries, water and power besides matters pertaining to forests and environment, housing, education, food security, tourism and transport.
  • Five zonal councils were set up in 1957 under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956.
  • The Union home minister is the chairman of each of these five councils.

The 63rd IAEA Conference is being held at Vienna

  • The 63rd Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference is being held from 16 September to 20 September 2019 at Vienna, Austria.

  • The 27th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC-2018) was held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on October 2018.

At 17.5 million, Indian diaspora largest in the world: UN report

  • The International Migrant Stock 2019 was released by the Population Division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).
  • The report provides the latest estimates of the number of international migrants by age, sex and origin for all countries and areas of the world.
  • As per the report, India was the leading country of origin of international migrants in 2019 with a 17.5 million strong diaspora.
  • The top 10 countries of origin account for one-third of all international migrants. India is the leading country of origin of international migrants with 17.5 million persons living abroad. Migrants from Mexico constituted the second largest diaspora (11.8 million), followed by China (10.7 million).
  • In India, the highest number of international migrants came from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal.

Indian army conducts exercise ‘Chang Thang’ in Eastern Ladakh

  • The Indian Army conducted a massive rare exercise ‘Chang Thang’ in Eastern Ladakh bordering China.
  • The exercise involved the use of infantry, mechanised forces, T-72 tanks, with force multipliers such as artillery guns and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
  • The Indian Air Force was also roped in the exercise.
  • This is the first time such kind of exercise has happened in the region.

Veteran Malayalam Actor Sathar Passes Away

  • Veteran Kerala actor Sathar passed away. He made his acting debut in 1975 with Malayalam movie Bharyaye Aavashyamundu directed by M. Krishnan Nair & in 1976 with Vincent Master’s directorial Anavaranam.
  • He was acted in more than 300 films, majority of them in Malayalam.
