International Day of Non-Violence: 2nd October
- The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
- According to the UN General Assembly, which established the commemoration, International Day is an occasion to “disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness”.
- On 15 June 2007, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution to declare 2nd October as International Day of Non-Violence.

Government launched the DIN system of CBDT
- Ministry of Finance has launched the Documentation Identification Number (DIN) system of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on 1 October 2019.
- On the day of launching, about 17,500 communications with DIN were generated.
- DIN system has been created as per the direction of Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman.
- The introduction of DIN will make every CBDT communication to have a documentation identification number.
- The DIN system is expected to ensure greater accountability and transparency in tax administration.

Nation pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th and Lal Bahadur Shashtri on his 115th birth anniversary
- The Nation pays homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary today i.e. 2nd October 2019.
- A series of activities are being organized across the country and by Indian Missions abroad.
- The nation is also remembering Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 115th birth anniversary.
- Under Shastri’s leadership, India won the 1965 war against Pakistan.
- He gave the nation the powerful slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan to enthuse soldiers and farmers.
Gandhi Film Festival to be organised in Mumbai
- Film Division in association with India Tourism will organise a “Gandhi Film Festival” in Mumbai from 2nd to 6th October, 2019.
- This film festival is a part of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebration and will focus on Gandhiji’s message of non-violence and Swachh Bharat.
- The select documentaries and feature films will be screened at the Films Division Complex, including:
- The Making of Mahatma, Gandhi, Gandhi My Father and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara.

International Astronomical Union names asteroid after Pandit Jasraj
- The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid after Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj.
- The asteroid formally known as a minor planet, is located between Mars and Jupiter. It was discovered on November 11, 2006, by the Catalina Sky Survey.
- The privilege of naming a planet is first given to discoverers, who have 10 years to propose a name.
- Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj is an exponent of Indian classical vocal music.
- Jasraj is the recipient of numerous awards, honours, and titles, including the prestigious Padma Vibhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
Paryatan Parv 2019 launched
- Center has launched the nationwide Paryatan Parv 2019 on 2 October.
- It was inaugurated by the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi.
- Paryatan Parv 2019 was organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
- Paryatan Parv aims to propagate the message of Dekho Apna Desh with the objective to encourage Indians to visit various tourist destinations of the country.
- Paryatan Parv 2019 will be held from 2nd to 13th October 2019 across the country.
- Paryatan Parv 2019 is dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
- Paryatan Parv is being organized with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country.
- It also reinforces the principle of Tourism for All.
- Dekho Apna Desh - To encourage Indians to visit their own country.

AIM, NITI Aayog, UNICEF India launched The Gandhian Challenge
- AIM, NITI Aayog’s Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and UNICEF India, including Generation Unlimited, have launched The Gandhian Challenge.
- The Gandhian Challenge provides a platform for every child across India to innovative, using Gandhi’s principles, solutions for a sustainable India of their dreams.
- The winners of The Gandhian Challenge will be selected. They will be awarded in New Delhi by NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission and UNICEF on 14 November.

Surjit S Bhalla appointed as Executive Director for India at IMF
- The government has appointed economist Surjit Bhalla as the executive director of the International Monetary Fund for a period of three years.
- The post was lying vacant after the death of Dr. Subir Gokarn in July.
- Bhalla earlier served as a member of the prime minister’s economic advisory council but resigned earlier this year.
