  • Protects airports, seaports, metro rail networks, government buildings,
    heritage monuments (including the Taj Mahal), opium and alkaloids extractions,
    nuclear power plants, and space installations.
  • It also specializes in VIP security as well as disaster management.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) – B D
Sharma, DG
  • To promote sense of security among the people living in the border areas.
  • To prevent trans-border crimes, and unauthorised entries entry or exit from
    the territory of India.

National Security Guard (NSG) – Jayanta Narayan
Choudhory, DG
  • The NSG was established in the wake of 1984 Operation Blue Star, and the
    high collateral damage to Golden Temple, and civilian and military collateral
    casualties.
  • The NSG’s is trained to conduct counter terrorist task to including
    counter hijacking tasks on land, sea, and air; Bomb disposal (search, detection
    and neutralization of IEDs); PBI (Post Blast Investigation) and Hostage Rescue
    missions.
  • It is a specialized counter terrorism force, it is intended for use
    “only in exceptional situations” and not meant to take over the
    “functions of the State Police Forces or other Para Military Forces”.

Special Protection Group (SPG) – Vivek Srivastav
  • Protection of Prime Minister, President
  • Protection of international or domestic VIPs, protection of significant
    state assets.
