Quant Quiz – Time & Work – 17

Hello and welcome to exampundit. Here is a set of Quantitative Aptitude Quiz based on Time & Work questions.

Q:1- 28 men can complete a piece of work in 15 days and 15 women can complete the same  piece of work in 24 days. what is the respective ratio between the amount of work done by 30 men in 1 day and the amount of work done by 18 women in a day?

  1. 11:6
  2. 10:7
  3. 13:8
  4. 15:9
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 2

Explanation:

28 men do 1 work in 15 days

Then,            time taken by 30 men

= 15 × 28/30

= 14 days

15 women do the same work in 24 days

So, time taken by 18 women

=  15 × 24/ 18

= 20 days

Hence, required ration = 1/14 : 1/20

=  20 :14

= 10 : 7.

Q:2- 15 men and 16 women together can complete a piece of work 6 days. If 12 women can complete the same piece of work in 32 days, in how many days will 10 men can complete the same piece of work?

  1. 8 days
  2. 10 days
  3. 12 days
  4. 15 days
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 3

Explanation:

Work done is same,

Then, (15 × 6) men + (16 × 6) women ≡ (12 × 32) women

90 men  + 96 women  ≡ 384 women

90 men  ≡ (384 – 96) women

90 men   ≡ 288 women

10 men ≡ 32 women

M1D1  = M2D2

12 × 32 = 32 × D2

D2 = 12 days.

Q:3- 18 men can complete a piece of work in 30 days and 16 women can complete the same piece of work in 36 days. 15 men start working and after 9 days they are replaced by 18 women. In how many days will 18 women complete the remaining work?

  1. 24 days
  2. 25 days
  3. 26 days
  4. 28 days
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 1

Explanation:

Let work done by 15 men in 9 days = W2

(18 × 30)/1 = (15 × 9)/W2

W2  =   (15 × 9)/(18 × 30)

=  1/4

Remaining work   = 1 – ¼

= 3/4

Again, 16 women complete the work in 36 days.

So,                     (16 × 36)/1 = (18 × D2)/3/4

D2  = (3 × 16 × 36)/ (18 × 4)

= 24 days.

Q:4- Three typists A, B and C have to type 368 pages. A type one page in 8 minutes, B in 18 minutes and C in 24 minutes. In what time will these pages be typed if they work together ?

  1. 22.5 hours
  2. 24.6 hours
  3. 25.5 hours
  4. 27.6 hours
  5. 30 hours
Answer & Solutions

Option: 4

Explanation:

Page printed in one minute together by all three

= 1/8 + 1/18 + 1/24

= (9 + 4 + 3)/72

=  16/72

= 2/9

Hence, time taken = 368 × 9/2

= 1656 minutes

= 27.6 hours.

Q:5- 6 men can complete a piece of work in 12 days. 8 women can complete the same piece of work in 18 days and 18 children can do it in 10 days. 4 men, 12 women and 20 children do the work for 2 days. If the remaining work be completed by men only in 1 days, how many men will be required?

  1. 34 men
  2. 36 men
  3. 38 men
  4. 41 men
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 2

Explanation:

1 man will complete the work in = 6 × 12

= 72 days

1 woman will complete the work in = 8 × 18

= 144 days

1 child will complete the work in    = 18 × 10

= 180 days

4 men + 12 women + 20 children’s 2 day’s work

= 2× (4/72 + 12/144 + 20/180)

= 2×(2 + 3 + 4)/36

=2×9/36

= ½

Remaining work  = 1-1/2

= 1/2

Required number of men to do this remaining work

= 72×1/2

= 36 men.

Q:6- A and B can do a work in 10 days and 15 days respectively. If A starts on the work and both work alternatively day after day, in how many days will the work be completed.

  1. 9 days
  2. 10 days
  3. 11 days
  4. 12 days
  5. 14 days
Answer & Solutions

Option: 4

Explanation:

A can do work in = 10 days

B can do work in = 15 days

Taking LCM of both = 30(Total work, let)

A’s 1 day work = 30/10

= 3 per day

B’s 1 day work  =  30/15

= 2 per day

2 day’s work of (A+B)     = (2+3)

= 5

Time taken      = 2 ×(30/5)

= 12 days.

Q:7- A work can be completed by A and B in 12 days, B and C in 15 days and C and A in 20 days. In how many days A alone can finish the work?

  1. 26 days
  2. 29 days
  3. 30 days
  4. 35 days
  5. 39 days
Answer & Solutions

Option: 3

Explanation:

(A + B )’s 1 day’s work = 1/12

(B+C)’s 1 day’s work = 1/15

(C+A)’s 1 day’s work = 1/20

On adding,

2(A+B+C)’s 1 day’s work = 1/12 + 1/15 + 1/20

= (5+4+3)/60

= 12/60

2(A+B+C)’s 1 day’s work = 1/5

(A+B+C)’s 1 day’s work = 1/10

So,              A’s 1 day’s work = 1/10 – 1/15

= 3 – 2/30

= 1/30

Hence, A alone will complete the work in 30 days.

Q:8- A man , a women and a children together completed a piece of work in 3 days. If a man alone  can do it in 6 days and a children alone in 18 days. how long will a woman alone take to complete the work?

  1. 9 days
  2. 15 days
  3. 16 days
  4. 13 days
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 1

Explanation:

(1man + 1 woman + 1 child)’s 1 day’s work

= 1/3

Then, woman’s 1 day’s work    =1/3 –(1/6+1/18)

= 1/3 – 4/18

= (6 – 4) /18

= 2/18

= 1/9

Hence, the woman alone will complete the work in

= 9 days.

Q:9- 3 men can do a work in 12 days, 5 women can do the same  work in 8 days and 20 boys in 3 days. If all the men, women and boys work together , in how many days will the work be completed?

  1. 14 days
  2. 16 days
  3. 24/13 days
  4. 15/12 days
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 3

Explanation:

Part of work done in 1 day

=  1/12 + 1/8 + 1/3

= (2+3+8)/24

= 13/24

Hence,    required Time  = 24/13 days.

Q:10- 8 men can complete a piece of work in 20 days. 8 women can complete the same work in 32 days. In how many days will 5 men and 8 women together complete the same work?

  1. 13 days
  2. 14 days
  3. 15 days
  4. 16 days
  5. None of these.
Answer & Solutions

Option: 4

Explanation:

(8 × 20) men ≡ (8 × 32) women

5 men ≡ 8 women

5 men + 8 women ≡ 16 women

M1D1  = M2D2

                                          8 × 32 = 16 × D2

D2   = (8 × 32)/16

= 16 days.
