First Segment – When?
- First National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated on April 24, 2010.
Second Segment – Why this date?
- The 73rd Constitution Amendment of Panchayati Raj, 1992 was came into force with effect from 24 April 1993.
- The Basic reason for introducing of Panchayati Raj system is to distribute the Powers of our democratic country.
Third Segment – Who?
- Mr. Manmohan Singh, The former Prime Minister of India was declared the first National Panchayati Raj Day on 24 April 2010.
Fourth Segment – History?
- The Name Reason – Panch-Ayat- Raj
- Panch means Five, Ayat means Assembly and Raj means rule. So our Country powers are divided into five as

- Zilla Parishad (District Level)
- Panchayat Samiti (Block Level)
- Gram Panchayat (Village Level)

- The committee which recommended the establishment of the scheme of ‘democratic decentralization was Balwant Rai Mehta Committee. and he is known as Father of Panchayat Raj.
- The 73rd Amendment of Panchayati Raj covering the Articles from 243 to 243 O and new 11th schedule covering 29 subjects within the functions of panchayat.
- The first State which adopted the Panchayat Raj system after independence was Rajasthan in Nagour district on 2 Oct 1959 and it was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru.
- The Panchayat Raj system was first adopted by the state of Bihar by the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act of 1947.
- The States having the highest number of Gram Panchayats are Karnataka, Kerala and Chhattisgarh.
- All the states except Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram and all UT except Delhi adopted the Panchayati Raj System.

- Ministry of Panchayati Raj Organize a national event to commemorate National Panchayati Raj Day on 24th April 2021 at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in a hybrid Mode.
