Hello and welcome to exampundit. Yesterday IBPS released the notification of IBPS RRB 2018 where aspirants from West Bengal left in shock since the vacancies are literally 0 in Officer Scale I. Today we will be discussing about the aspirants of West Bengal and what should they do now.
Firstly, the current banking recruitment scenario is not good. Most of the banks are suffering from NPA and some of them are already in PCA.
In this situation we still have plenty of people who need a job. And West Bengal is NOT a small state. We have a large number of aspirants in West Bengal.
So, when the hard working aspirants saw the Number of Vacancies for West Bengal, frustration was justified.
Now, what to do? What exactly should one do?
If you are in dire need of a job, then you go for IBPS RRB Officer Scale I. If not, don’t waste your ₹600 + GST on IBPS RRB PO. Rather go after Office Assistant, IBPS PO and IBPS Clerk.
Those who want to apply for IBPS RRB OS-I at any cost, can apply from other state.
Since IBPS served a Rosogulla for West Bengal OS-I Aspirants, it is advised, that you go for other states where Hindi or Bangla is there.

- Rajasthan
- Bihar
- Madhya Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Himachal Pradesh
- Jharkhand
States with Bengali Language
- Assam
- Tripura
Now, if we talk about States with Bengali Language apart from WB, Assam has 6 vacancies in OS-1 and Tripura has NR which is equivalent to 0.
So, you can say, Assam, WB and Tripura are out because of their mind boggling vacancies and Not Reported status.
Now, if you have studied, Hindi or you know Hindi, you can definitely go for Hindi Language States. However, you should remember, you will be working in a RURAL BANK in some OTHER STATE.
If you have no issue with that, you can go for them.
About the language, IBPS has provided a guideline on Local Language Proficiency in IBPS RRB OS-1 and Office Assistant.
Proficiency in local language
For recruitment of Officer Scale I & Office Assistant (Multipurpose), proficiency in local language as specified below shall be an essential qualification:-
Candidates who have already studied the language of the State in standard VIII or any level above standard VIII in Government recognized Boards of Education/ School or having any certificate to the effect for standard VIII or any level above standard VIII would be considered proficient in that local language.
Where the candidate does not meet the aforesaid requirement in local language at the time of selection, he will be given a time of six months from the date of joining to acquire the proficiency.
This period can be extended by the Boards of RRBs within the framework of the rules and provided that such extension should not be beyond the probation period.
So, if you are in dire need, ready to work in other state’s rural area and belong to West Bengal, you may go for Hindi Speaking states.
