New & Renewable Energy Ministry observes SwachhtaPakhwada from June 1-15

  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) observed SwachhtaPakhwada (cleanliness fortnight) from 1st June to 15th June 2019.
  • During this period, MNRE undertook various activities such as Shramdan (cleanliness drive) by staff, lectures and seminars.
  • Objective of this Pakhwada is to spread the message of Swachh Bharat widely and encourage people to participate in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
  • SwachhtaPakhwadacampaign is started by Secretary, MNRE ShriAnand Kumar by delivering a lecture on the importance of Swachhata in life.

  • In the Ladakh Region of Jammu and Kashmir, SingheyKhababsSindhu Festivals is being celebrated today.

Rural Development ministry in UP organises open, under camera session for transfer of officers

  • To promote transparency in the working of government, rural development ministry in Uttar Pradesh organised an open and under camera session for transfer of its officers.
  • Department has asked officers about their choice for posting online and an open session was held in Secretariat in state capital Lucknow in all officers in presence of media.
  • The transfers were then done online to improve transparency in the government.

Gujarat State School Textbook Board puts textbooks of state board on-line in PDF format

  • Gujarat State School Textbook Board has put textbooks of standards 6 to 12 of the state board on-line in PDF format.
  • The students can now download these books free of cost.
  • The move helps in the availability of books for teachers and students even before the opening of schools.

Seventh India and Brunei Darussalam Foreign Office Consultations held in New Delhi

  • The 7th Foreign Office Consultations between India and Brunei Darussalam was held on 24th June, 2019 in New Delhi.
  • The Indian side was led by Smt. Vijay Thakur Singh, Secretary(East) and Brunei side was led by Mrs.HajahSitiNorishan Haji Abdul Ghafor, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brunei Government.
  • The two sides exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues.

SEBI imposes over Rs 26 lakh fine on 4 entities for fraudulent trading

  • Markets regulator SEBI levied a total fine of over Rs 26 lakh on four entities for indulging in unfair trade practices on BSE.
  • The firms facing penalty are GKS Technology Park Pvt Ltd, Femina Stock Management, Sagar Constructions and SPFL Securities Ltd.

India signs USD 400M loan agreement with World Bank to eliminate TB

  • India has signed a loan agreement worth 400 million dollar with the World Bank to help treat and eliminate Tuberculosis from the country.
  • The World Bank supported program will cover nine States and it will support the government’s National Strategic Plan to end TB in India by 2025.
  • The Program will strengthen the detection, treatment and monitoring of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis and will track progress in the detection of additional drug resistance.

  • ADB’s Singapore office is expected to open in the second half of this year.

Indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II test fired successfully

  • India successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II from a test range off the Odisha coast.
  • Prithvi-II is a surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km.
  • The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.

ViratKohli becomes fastest batsman to score 20,000 runs

  • India captain ViratKohli today became the fastest batsman to reach 20,000 international runs.
  • Kohli reached the milestone in only his 417th international innings.
  • Kohli, thus, became the 12th batsman and third Indian after Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to reach 20,000 international runs.
  • The Indian Captain reached the milestone when he reached the score of 37 in India’s 6th match in World cup yesterday against West Indies.

Freedom fighter Mohammed Baji passes away

  • Eminent freedom fighter Mohammed Baji died at his residence at SunariSahi in Nabarangpur District of Odisha.
  • He was 103.
  • He had joined the Indian National Congress in 1936.
  • He also joined the Quit India Movement and was held on August 19, 1942.
  • After the freedom struggle, Baji was active in the Sarvodaya movement.
  • He was the chairman of Utkal Gandhi SmarakNidhi and a close associate of UtkalSarvodayaMandal.

Former Bengal cricketer ShyamSundarMitra passes away

  • Former Bengal cricketer ShyamSundarMitra passed away at an age of 82.
  • Mitra, who captained Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, was an elegant right-hand batsman and a part-time medium pacer.
  • He was conferred the Karthick Bose Lifetime Achievement Award by Cricket Association of Bengal.
