32nd Congress of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) begins in Hyderabad

  • The 32nd Congress of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) has started in Hyderabad today.
  • The event is inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, KailashChoudhary.
  • The Seed Congress is being held for the first time in South Asia.
  • The deliberations will be mainly focusing on various technologies for increasing quality seed production and seed export-import policies.
  • Over 600 delegates including seed experts, officials, policy makers and representatives of national and international companies from nearly 70 countries are taking part in the event.

Odisha CM unveils Flood Hazard Atlas

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled a Flood Hazard Atlas for the efficient management of Flood in the state.
  • The Atlas is jointly prepared by National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and Odisha Disaster Management Authority (ODSAM).
  • This atlas will help identify the disaster prone areas of the state so that necessary plans can be made to tackle the situation.

World Bank approves $147 Million Loan to the Government of Jharkhand

  • The World Bank approved a $147 million loan agreement to provide basic urban services to the people of Jharkhand.
  • Their aim is to improve the management capacity of the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the state and to strengthen the capacity of the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO).
  • They invest in urban services such as water supply, sewerage, drainage, and urban roads.

World Bank to provide $31.58 million loan for financial systems management project in Uttarakhand

  • The World Bank has signed an agreement with Government of India to provide $31.58 million (about Rs 221 crore) loan for a project to improve Uttarakhand’s financial systems and better utilisation of development resources in the state.
  • This is a tripartite agreement between the central government, the Uttarakhand government and the World Bank for Uttarakhand Public Financial Management Strengthening project.
  • The loan will improve state’s ability to manage its financial systems and lead to better utilisation of development resources

IAF to participate in Indo-French joint air exercise

  • The Indian Air Force is participating in a bilateral exercise between Indian and French Air Force named Exercise ‘Garuda-VI’ in France from 1st to 12th
  • This is the sixth edition of Exercise and is being planned at French Air Force Base, Mont-de-Marsan.
  • The last exercise, ‘Garuda V’ was held at Air Force Station Jodhpur in 2014.
