23rd June observed as the World Olympic Day
- World Olympic Day is observed on 23rd June all around the world.
- First Olympic Day was celebrated on 23 June 1948 by 9 National Olympic Committees (NOC).
- The first Olympic Games were held in Athens (Greece) from 6 April to 15 April 1896.
- The goal World Olympic Day is to promote participation in different sports throughout the world without any discrimination of the gender, age and athletic ability.
23rd June: United Nations Public Service Day
- United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated on 23rd June every year.
- Objective: to highlight the contribution of public service in the development process and to value public service to the community.
- Theme: ‘Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through effective Delivery of Services, Innovative Transformation and Accountable Institutions’

- International Widow’s Day is observed on 23rd June every year.
- United Nations wanted to draw an attention towards the experiences of widows and how to provide unique support at the time they need.

Govt develops National Strategic Plan to end TB by 2025
- The government has developed a National Strategic Plan with the goal of ending Tuberculosis (TB) by 2025.
- The Vision is of a TB free India with zero deaths, disease and poverty due to tuberculosis.
- The Goal is to achieve a rapid decline in the burden of TB, mortality and morbidity, while working towards the elimination of TB in India by 2025.
- India ranks 35th in the world in terms of TB cases per lakh population.

Bihar: Campaign against malnutrition to be launched on large scale
- In Bihar, campaign against malnutrition will be launched on a large scale. This move has been taken after deaths of children due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).
- Awareness programme is being undertaken in Encephalitis affected 20 districts including Muzaffarpur, Vaishali and Samastipur

Operation Bandar, code name of Balakot strike
- The air strike by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, was code-named ‘Operation Bandar’.

- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today formally opened its new headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland with costs 145 million US Dollars.

Indian women’s hockey team clinches FIH Series Finals
- Indian women’s hockey team beat Asian Games champions and hosts Japan 3-1 in the summit clash of the FIH Series Finals in Hiroshima Hockey Stadium.
- For India, GurjitKaur scored two goals while Captain Rani Rampal gave India early lead.
- Indian men had won the FIH Series Finals in Bhubaneswar recently.
Indian women’s rugby team claims 1st-ever international Rugby 15s victory
- The Indian women’s rugby team claimed a historic first-ever international Rugby 15s victory with a 21-19 win over Singapore to finish third in the Asia Women’s – Division 1 Rugby XVs Championship in Manila.
- China won the tournament with a 68-0 victory over hosts Philippines in a one-sided final.
- The tournament was one of the qualifying rounds for the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup to be held in New Zealand.
South-East Asian countries will jointly bid to host 2034 Football World Cup
- South-East Asian countries will jointly bid to host the 2034 Football World Cup.
- Prime Minister of Thailand Prayuth Chan-ocha invited the people of ASEAN to support the football associations in their countries to host the tournament.
- The FIFA World Cup has held only once in the continent when Japan and South Korea were joint hosts in 2002. Qatar will bring it back to Asia in 2022.
- The ASEAN countries are Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei.
