RBI relaxes norms for Foreign Portfolio Investors to invest in debt
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has eased the norms for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to invest in debt, particularly into individual large businesses.
From now on FPIs will be permitted to invest in Government securities (G-secs) without any minimum residual maturity requirement. However, there will be a condition, short-term investments by an FPI shall not exceed 20 percent of the total investment.
Short-term investments by an FPI may exceed 20 percent of total investments made on or before April 27, 2018.
FPIs will also be permitted to invest in corporate bonds with minimum residual maturity of above one year. The condidation is, short-term investments by FPI in corporate bonds shall not exceed 20 percent of the total investment of that FPI in corporate bonds.
The Reserve Bank of India increased the FPIs cap on investment in government securities from 20 to 30 percent of the outstanding stock of that security.
Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) will be monitoring utilisation of FPI investment limits in G-secs and State Development Loans (SDLs) online.
Concentration limits for Investment by any FPI
- Long-term FPIs: The concentration limit is 15 percent of prevailing investment limit.
- Other FPIs: The concentration limit is 10 percent of prevailing investment limit.
- All other FPIs will be allowed to invest up to the applicable concentration limit.
Task Force constituted to examine feasibility of Steel Plants in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana
Steel Ministry constituted a Task Force to examine the feasibility of setting up steel plants in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana by any interested parties at Bayyaram and Kadapa.
The task force comprises of representatives from the Central Government, State Government and Central Public Sector Enterprises under the Ministry of Steel.

Gujarat topped Composition Water Management Index (CWMI) by NITI Aayog
Nitin Gadkari released Niti Aayog’s Composition Water Management Index (CWMI) report.
This index ranked all the states in India on the basis of their composite water management.
Gujarat was ranked the best state on the water management index followed by Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka while Rajasthan was ranked the lowest on the index.
The states were ranked on the basis of groundwater, restoration of water bodies, irrigation, farm practices, drinking water, policy and governance.
Dhanush, India’s first indigenous artillery gun clears final test
Dhanush, India’s first indigenous artillery gun has cleared the final test.
The indigenously upgraded artillery gun Dhanush is now ready for induction into the Indian Army.
Dhanush has been developed by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata.
Dhanush is the upgraded version of Swedish 155-mm Bofors howitzers.
Financial assistance of Rs 5.5 lakh per family approved to Refugees settled in J&K
The government has approved financial assistance upto Rs. 5.5 lakh per family to West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs).
A total of 5764 families of WPRs settled in Jammu and Kashmir will be benefited and it will be effective from June 2018.
Naval Women Mountaineers Summit held at Mount Deotibba
All women Naval mountaineering team led by Lt Cdr Kokila Sajwan summited Mount Deotibba in June 2018.
Mount Deotibba is the second highest peak (6001M) in the Pir-Panjal range in Himachal Pradesh.

Ivan Duque became the youngest president of Colombia after winning the election on June 18.
The elect president Ivan Duque defeated Gustavo Petro in the 2018 Presidensial Election.
He will be the 33rd President of Colombia replacing the Nobel Peace Prize winner Juan Manuel Santos Calderón.

Latvia assumed chairmanship of NSG for 2018-19.
Latvia became first Baltic state to chair the NSG.

Record-breaking spacewoman Peggy Whitson retires as NASA’s astronaut
Less than a year after returning from her last and longest spaceflight NASA’s record-breaking spacewoman, Peggy Whitson announced her retirement as astronaut.
She spent a total of 665 days in space — more than any other NASA astronaut, and record for women worldwide.
She had commanded Expedition 51, becoming the first woman to lead an ISS mission twice.
Russia successfully launches Glonass-M satellite
Russia successfully launched Glonass-M positioning satellite.
The satellite is part of GLONASS (Russian acronym for Global Navigation Satellite System) Network.
Social Enterprise Development Programme to be launched by SAARC Development Fund
As a part of its social window the SAARC Development Fund (SDF) will be launching the Social Enterprise Development Programme (SEDP).
The primary aim of this programme is to identify and build social enterprises by using mix of grants and concessional returnable capital.
This program will be funding 80 enterprises across the 8 SAARC member states – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The SAARC Development Fund (SDF) was established by heads of all eight SAARC member states during 16th SAARC summit at Thimphu, Bhutan in April 2010.

Uttarakhand to debut in Ranji Trophy this season
For the first time Uttarakhand will be playing in Ranji Trophy.
This was confirmed by Committee of Administrators member Vinod Rai.
Till date, 29 teams played in Ranji Trophy making Uttarakhand the 30th team.
