12th June Observed as World Day against Child Labour

  • 12th June is observed as World Day against Child Labour every year.
  • The International Labour Organisation (ILO) introduced World Day against Child Labour to be observed on 12 June every year, starting 2002.
  • This year’s theme is ‘Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams’.
  • ILO defines child labour as “work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development”.

Indian PM to attend SCO meeting in Bishkek

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek, on June 13-14.
  • This will be the second CHS meeting after India became member of the SCO.
  • Narendra Modi had also attended the last CHS meeting in Qingdao, China, last year.
  • The min agenda of this meeting is to focus on the global security situation, multilateral economic cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and also on topical issues of international and regional importance.
  • He will take part in several Bilateral Meeting.

Bengaluru CM Kumaraswamy launches ‘Pink Sarathi’ vehicles

  • Bengaluru Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday flagged off the ‘Pink Sarathi’ vehicles procured by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) under the ‘Nirbhaya’ scheme.
  • The corporation had received ₹07 crore from the Union government under the scheme.
  • The BMTC now have 25 Pink Sarathi vehicles fitted with GPS and public announcement systems.
  • The Chief Minister also launched the student bus pass scheme.

Green Mizoram Day celebrated throughout the state on 11th June

  • On 11th June, Mizoram celebrated ‘Green Mizoram day’ by distributing and planting trees.
  • The Green Mizoram Day is being organised every year on June 11 since 1999.
  • The aim of celebrating this day is to work for green environment and to maintain ecological balance.
  • On the occasion, Chief Minister Zoramthanga planted saplings at the premises of the Assam Rifles headquarters in Aizawl.

Hyderabad to Host International Quran Exhibition

  • Hyderabad city is hosting an International Quran Exhibition from June 22 to 24, 2019.
  • The exhibition will be open daily from 10 AM till 5 PM at Salar Jung Museum.
  • In this ‘International The Quran Exhibition’ famous and leading museums, institutions and centers in Iran and India will be displaying the facsimile copies of the rare and illuminated copies of the holy Quran.
  • Participants of this Exhibition include, Quran and Etrat Division, Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Islamic Republic of Iran, Tehran; Jamia Nizamia, Hyderabad, India.

ISRO Third Space Technology Incubation Centre at NIT-T

  • ISRO set-up the third Space Technology Incubation Centre (S-TIC) at NIT- Tiruchirappalli.
  • Its Objective is to encourage start-ups and entrepreneurship among student community and to develop Academia–Industry ecosystem for Space Technology in the country.
  • First Incubation centre- NIT-Agartala
  • Second Incubation Centre – NIT-Jalandhar
  • Three more are to come up at Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Nagpur in Maharastra and Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

Chandrayaan-2 to be launched on July15th

  • ISRO officially announced that the Chandrayaan -2 will be launched at 2.51am on July 15th.
  • The cost of the mission—including Foreign Service for navigation is Rs 603 crore, and an additional Rs 375 crore will be the launch cost.
  • The total weight of the spacecraft will be 3.8 tonne

Japan to invest Rs 13,000 cr in Northeast region

  • Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Jitendra Singh announced that japan will invest Rs 13,000 Cr after a meeting with the Japanese delegation led by Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu in New Delhi.
  • Some of the important projects in which Japan will collaborate include Guwahati Water Supply Project and Guwahati Sewage Project in Assam, Northeast Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project spread over Assam and Meghalaya, Bio-diversity Conservation and Forest Management Project in Sikkim and Sustainable Forest Management Project in Tripura.

  • The 16th Asia media summit that kicked-off in Cambodia (Siem Reap) deliberating on many issues pertaining to the media and broadcasting industry.

Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2019 held at Gurugram

  • Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2019 held at Gurugram which is hosted by the Indian Navy.
  • The Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral MS Pawar has stressed on the need for greater maritime collaboration and forging of bonds based on trust, between partner countries in the region.
  • 41 delegates from 29 countries of the Indian Ocean Region, IOR and beyond are participating in the two-day event.
  • The MISW aims to acquaint participants about Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region, IFC-IOR, its information sharing mechanisms and promote sharing of best practices in this field.

RBI constitutes committee to review ATM pricing

  • The Reserve Bank of India has constituted a six-member committee to review the entire gamut of ATM charges and fees.
  • VG Kannan, Chief Executive of Indian Banks’ Association will head the committee.
  • The committee will review existing patterns of costs, charges and interchange fees for ATM transactions. It is to submit its report within two months from the date of its first meeting.
