  The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 22
  September 2014 approved the appointment of V.G. Mathew as Managing Director
  (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kerala-based South Indian Bank Ltd.
• ·        
  V.G. Mathew is appointed for a period of
  three years with effect from 1 October 2014. He will replace V.A. Joseph who
  will retire on 30 September 2014 after serving the bank for 12 years.
• ·        
  His appointment was made under the Section
  35B of the Banking Regulation Act 1949.
• ·        
  V. G. Mathew served as an Executive Vice President
  of The South Indian Bank Ltd since 2 January 2014.
• ·        
  Before joining the South Indian Bank Ltd,
  Mathew served as Chief General Manager of Corporate Accounts Group at State
  Bank of India.

• ·        
  ICICI Bank today launched a new product to
  serve the Indian diaspora and cater to their non- financial needs.
• ·        
  The top private lender said ‘NRI Advantage’
  entitles customers to avail of exclusive discounts/special offers. It is
  targeted at NRI Premia, NRI Pro and NRI savings account holders.
• ·        
  The product delivers a host of discounts for
  healthcare requirements, gifting family & friends, assistance for service
  needs and India-based shopping wants of NRIs, among others.

  Amit Mathew on 22 September 2014 was
  unanimously elected as Chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the
  year 2014-15. He is the resident editor and director of Malyala Manorama.
• ·        
  In addition to Mathews, Shashidhar Sinha was
  elected as the deputy chairman of the ABC for the 2014-15. Shashidhar Sinha is
  the CEO (India) of IPG Mediabrands and represents the advertising agencies of the
  Council.

  The other members of the Bureau’s Council of
  Management for the year 2014-2015 are: Shailesh Gupta (Jagran Prakashan Ltd),
  Aritra Sarkar (ABP Pvt. Ltd), I Venkat (Ushodaya Enterprises Ltd.), Hormusji N
  Cama (The Bombay Samachar Pvt Ltd), Devendra V Darda (Lokmat Media Pvt Ltd),
  Sanjeev Vohra (Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd) and Benoy Roychowdhury (HT Media
  Ltd).

  Also, Hormuzd Masani would be the Secretary
  General of the ABC.

  The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) of
  India is a non-profit circulation-auditing organization. The ABC is a not for
  profit organization. It was founded in 1948.

  Internet search major Google, on Tuesday,
  launched a new social campaign to increase the internet literacy among women in
  India. Google has tied up MARD, an initiative started by Bollywood
  actor-cum-director Farhan Akhtar. MARD has tied up with Google’s digital
  literacy initiative for women ‘Helping Women get online’ (HWGO).

  HWGO was launched by Google India in
  collaboration with Axis Bank, Intel and Hindustan Unilever about a year ago, a
  statement from Google India said. The campaign will look to generate awareness
  around the need to get women online as well as encourage existing users to help
  get more women online and spread awareness of gender equality and women
  empowerment.

  Amazon.in today announced the launch of
  Release Day Delivery (RDD), a service committed to delivering new product
  offerings to customers on the day of their launch.
• ·        
  With the launch of RDD, Amazon.in customers
  can now pre- order and receive some of the most eagerly awaited new products at
  their doorstep on the day of release, the company said.

  Hardeep Singh Puri was appointed as Secretary
  General of Independent Commission on Multilateralism (ICM) on 23 September
  2014. He is a former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the
  United Nations.
• ·        
  Under the direction of the Secretary General,
  and in close cooperation with the chair and co-chairs, the final report of the
  ICM will be finalized.
• ·        
  Independent Commission on Multilateralism
  (ICM) launched by International Peace Institute (IPI) is aimed at identifying
  policy proposals to enhance the multilateral system’s ability to respond to
  evolving global challenges.
• ·        
  ICM will be chaired by former Australian
  Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and co-chaired by Foreign Minister of Norway Borge
  Brende and Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird.

  Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) observed
  World Green Building Week from 22 September 2014 to 27 September 2014. The week
  is simultaneously being observed in over 100 countries.
• ·        
  The theme of the week is Get up, Green Up.
  The week aimed to promote construction of environment-friendly buildings.
• ·        
  The DMRC has partnered with the Indian Green
  Building Council (IGBC) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
• ·        
  The Delhi Metro has decided to design all its
  phase-III stations as green buildings.

• ·        
  London has overtaken Hong Kong as the world’s
  most expensive city to live and work in, as a new study has suggested it has
  turned nearly twice as pricey as Sydney and four times more expensive than Rio
  de Janeiro. India’s Mumbai was found to be at the bottom of the 12 most
  expensive cities report.
• ·        
  The combined typical cost of renting
  accommodation and leasing an office to work for a year in London had risen to
  almost 74,000 pounds per employee. That puts the British capital city well
  ahead of other global hubs such as New York, Paris and Tokyo, the Guardian
  Tuesday quoted estate agent Savills as saying.

  Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant, has
  not only created history with the largest IPO ever at $25 billion but also made
  its founder and CEO, Jack Ma, the second richest man in Asia. The record for
  the largest IPO was held by Agriculture Bank of China, which raised $22.1
  billion in 2010.
• ·        
  Ma (50) has overtaken Mukesh Ambani and Hong
  Kong’s Lee Shau Kee to become China’s richest and Asia’s second wealthiest with
  a personal wealth of $26.5 billion. Ma trails HK’s Li Ka-Shing among Asia’s richest, according to the Bloomberg
  Billionaires Index.

  Jack Ma , a former English teacher, wants
  Alibaba to be bigger than Walmart in the coming years.

  hence, Tendulkar’s appearance at the annual Bradman Foundation dinner is
  fitting as the late Aussie great once famously said in an interview that he
  believed Sachin’s technique, like no other modern batsman, reminded him of his
  own.
