- To celebrate this day ‘My Ganga My Dolphin’ campaign launched by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), the Wildlife Institute of India and the Forest Department to conduct Dolphin census in 250 km stretch from Bijnor to Narora.
- On 20th October 2010, Ganga Dolphins were declared as the national aquatic animals.
