Centre released e commerce guidelines for consumer protection

  • The Department of Consumer Affairs has released draft guidelines on e-commerce titled ‘e-commerce guidelines for consumer protection 2019’.
  • AIM: to protect the interest of online shoppers. It provides measures to prevent fraud, unfair trade practices and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. It will be applicable to business-to-consumer e-commerce, including goods and services.

Aamir Khan launches Mission Shakti sports initiative

  • Actor Aamir Khan attended the launch function of Mission Shakti, an initiative by Maharashtra minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to train athletes from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli for international events like the Olympics.

Delhi Metro issues red alert, security checking to take more time

  • Delhi Metro stations will be a little longer as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a red alert after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced revoking of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • It is a rapid transit system serving Delhi and its satellite cities of Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Bahadurgarh and Ballabgarh in the National Capital Region of India.

AP Home Minister flags off riot control vehicle Vajra

  • Arunachal Pradesh State Home Minister Bamang Felix flagged of Five Anti-Riot police vehicle.It is known as ‘Vajra’, from Police Headquarter in Itanagar.
  • This is the first set of anti-riot vehicles introduced in the state police department.

Second All India Annual Conference of IIS Officers held at New Delhi

  • The Second All India Annual Conference of Indian Information Service (IIS) Officers was held at Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in New Delhi.
  • The Conference was organized by the the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The Ministry of I&B conducted a performance review of the Media units during the Conference.
  • AIM: to attain greater integration of all Media Units in order to further amplify government communication.

Udaipur set to host India’s largest education Brainstorm

  • The third edition of India’s largest education brainstorming event, the ScooNews Global Educators Fest (SGEF) will be held on August 09 and 10 in Udaipur- the City of Lakes.
  • Theme: ‘Education for Sustainability: Moving on from conformity to creativity’.
  • It will bring together over 500 educators to discuss the way towards establishing India as the next global education powerhouse.

Noel Quinn becomes interim CEO of HSBC

  • HSBC has announced the departure of its CEO John Flint.
  • Noel Quinn, the head of HSBC’s Global Commercial Boxing Unit will replace John Flint as the inrerim CEO.

Giriraj Prasad Gupta takes over as new CGA

  • Giriraj Prasad Gupta, a 1983-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, took over as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) with effect from August 1, 2019.
  • Gupta succeeds Anthony Lianzuala as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) under the Finance Ministry.

SPORTS CURRENT AFFAIRS

Franky Zapata crosses Channel on hoverboard

  • Franky Zapata, the French inventor, successfully crossed the English Channel on a jet-powered hoverboard.
  • He set off on his kerosene-fueled Flyboard from Sangatte in the Pas de Calais region on the northern coast of France for the 22-mile (36 km) journey to St.Margaret’s Bay.

Mohali gets first 3-D traffic signal

  • The pilot project to install 3-D traffic signal was started in Mohali.
  • Employing the 3-D technique to make traffic signal fully actuated and on a real-time basis is first of its kind in the country.
  • The new system will have sensors which would automatically switch on the green and red signals depending upon the number of vehicles coming from that particular side.

India tops latest ICC Test rankings

  • India topped the latest ICC Test team rankings while New Zealand is placed 2nd and South Africa is in 3rd position.
  • India skipper Virat Kohli retains his number one position in the latest ICC Test batsmen’s rankings.
