RBI slaps Rs 26 lakh fine on Mobikwik and Hip Bar

  • The Reserve Bank has imposed a fine of about 26 lakh rupees on two online payment solutions providers for non-compliance of regulatory guidelines.
  • Mobikwik Systems Private Limited has been slapped a fine of 15 lakh rupees while Hip Bar Pvt Ltd faced a fine of 10.85 lakh rupees.

NITI Aayog partners with WhatsApp to promote women entrepreneurs

  • NITI Aayog announced a Partnership with Facebook-owned WhatsApp under the aegis of its Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP).

  • WhatsApp partnerned with the Women Transforming India (WTI) Awards 2019, flagship initiative of NITI Aayog and it decided to provide support amounting to $100,000 to WTI winners.

Pink coaches introduced for women by the Northeast Frontier Railway zone

  • Indian Railways Northeast Frontier Railway zone started an initiative to bring a special portion of the SLR coach with pink colour.
  • Objective: in order to bring women passengers with better safety and security
  • Around eight trains in Rangiya division of the Northeast Frontier Railway has begun operations with some pink coaches.
  • The section 58 of the Railways Act, 1989 provides for earmarking of accommodation for female passengers in trains.

  • The Geographical indicator (GI) granted to Odisha for the ‘Odisha rasgulla’, more than two years after West Bengal won its own GI tag.
  • West Bengal received its GI tag for its variety of rasgulla in November 2017.
  • Both the neighboring states now recognizes two distinct varieties in taste and texture.

  • Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee launched a unique initiative called ‘Didi Ke Bolo’ (Tell your sister) campaign to reach out to people of West Bengal.

  • The move is being seen as fresh plans to mobilise people and strengthen party at booth level ahead of Assembly polls due in 2021.

National Conference on e-Governance to be held on 8-9 August

  • 22nd National Conference on e-Governance 2019 will be held on 8-9th August 2019 at Shillong, Meghalaya.
  • It will be organized by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), in association with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India and the State Government of Meghalaya.
  • Theme: “Digital India: Success to Excellence”
  • This is the first time that the event is being organized in the North-Eastern region of the country.
  • The conference will provide a platform to disseminate knowledge on effective methods of designing and implementing sustainable e-Governance initiatives to provide end-to-end Digital services, exchange experience in solving problems, mitigating risks, resolving issues and planning for success.

India, Mozambique sign two MoU in field of Hydrography

  • India and Mozambique have signed two MoU on sharing white shipping information and co-operation in the field of Hydrography.
  • The agreement will further strengthen the ongoing Indo-Mozambican Defence co-operation and India Mozambique relations in general.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held delegation-level talks with his Mozambican counterpart Atanasio Salvador M’tumuke in Maputo.

India, Myanmar sign MoU on defence co-operation

  • India and Myanmar today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence co-operation.
  • The MoU was signed in New Delhi after the talks between Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Yesso Naik and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
  • the talks were aimed at enhancing defence co-operation, review joint exercises and training provided to Myanmar Defence Services.
  • It also aims to strengthen maritime security by joint surveillance and capacity building, medical co-operation, pollution response and for developing new infrastructure.

India, Benin sign MoUs in various field

  • India and Benin signed four MoUs on education, health and e-visa facilities after the bilateral talk between President Ramnath Kovind and Benin President Patrice Talon  in Cotonou.
  • India will provide fresh line of credit of 100 million US dollars to finance development projects in Benin.
  • Two more MoUs are signed on tele education program e-vidyabharati and Tele medicine initiative e-Arogyabharati.
  • Under these programmes, India is extending free tele-education courses to 15,000 students and telemedicine courses to 1000 doctors and paramedics in Africa.

  • In West Bengal Mr. Jagdeep Dhankar has been sworn in as the State Governor.

IAF’s Tarun Chaudhri becomes 1st Pilot to accomplish wingsuit skydive jump

  • Wing Commander Tarun Chaudhri become the first pilot of Indian Armed Forces to do a wingsuit jump.
  • The jump was accomplisehed from a Mi-17 helicopter from an altitude of 8500 feet.
  • The jump was undertaken during the Kargil Diwas celebration at Air Force station Jodhpur.

Landing Craft Utility L-56 Commissioned into Indian Navy

  • Landing Craft Utility (LCU) LCU L56 was commissioned into Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.
  • Indian Navy Ship LCU L-56 is the 6th ship of Landing Craft Utility (LCU) MK IV class.
  • Landing Craft Utility is 100th warship built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE), Kolkata. With this it has become 1st shipyard in the country to do so.

Vinayak S Hiremath youngest doctor to be felicitated with ‘Pride of Nation Award’

  • He is known for his exemplary work in the field of medicine.
  • Dr Vinayak S Hiremath, aged 30, is the first South Indian doctor to offer free insulin consultation and treatment to gestational (pregnancy) diabetic mothers and family members of the Indian Army.
  • The ceremony was held at NCC auditorium parade grounds in New Delhi on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
  • Dr Vinayak S Hiremath was given this honour by the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh.
  • “Pride of the Nation award” holds its place amongst the most prestigious awards in India and is given to the people who have made a notable contribution in their fields and in the process made India proud.

Saudi Arabia’s Prince Bandar bin sultan died

  • Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud passed away at an age of 96.
  • Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was the eldest living son of King Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Former State Minister Mukesh Goud died

  • Former Congress Minister M. Mukesh Goud passed away at an age of 60.
  • He served as BC Welfare and Marketing Minister in Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinets.
