- These services have been designed for deepening financial inclusion in the country.
- Airtel Payments Bank launched Bharosa savings account which lets you open a savings account with just Rs 500 minimum monthly balance.
- Bharosa savings account offers Rs 5 lakh personal accident insurance on maintaining balance of Rs 500.

- Indian Railways launches massive Shramdaan across the Country.
- Chairman Railway Board, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav along with other members participated in Shramdaan at New Delhi Railway Station.
- This drive with its main focus on the collection of plastic waste aims to create awareness for a greater impact against single-use plastic.
- It aims to enhancing cleanliness, through the collection of plastic waste from all railway premises.
- Indian Railways to make cleanliness its work culture won the Best Union Ministry Swachhata award for 2018-19 presented by the President of India on the last Friday-6th September 2019.

- Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that the Hyderabad-Karnataka region has been renamed as ‘Kalyana Karnataka’ and a separate secretariat would be established for its development.
- Hyderabad Karnataka region comprising six north-eastern districts of the State — Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari.

- The 24 Mega Watt Hydroelectric Project has been installed at Dikshi Village in West Kameng District.
- It is a Run of the River project constructed on the river Phudung by Devi Energies Private Limited.
- It was completed in a record time of four years with an investment of about 430 crore rupees.
- Government of Arunachal Pradesh is the sole beneficiary of the power generation from this project.

Udhampur district of J&K organized the first women-only marathon against drug addiction
- The Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) along with non-governmental organization (NGO) Dogra Kranti Dal organized the first women-only marathon.
- It was attended by chief patron Dogra Kranti Dal and former Member of the Legislative Assembly(MLA) Balwant Singh Mankotia and others.
- Women from different age groups participated in the marathon.

US company TI to set up research lab at NIT in Trichy
- Texas Instruments (TI), a US company, engaged in the design and development of semiconductors and software will set up a hi-tech, cutting edge research lab at National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Trichy, Tamilnadu.
- It envisages joint R&D projects over a period of three years for the development of new technologies in various engineering domains.
- The MoU in this regard was inked recently, in the presence of Director, NIT Trichy, Dr Mini Shaji Thomas and India University Programme Director, Sanjay Srivastav.
- As a part of the MoU, TI will deliver products and EVMs worth USD 25,000.

Ooty to host 2nd flower festival during North East Monsoon

Sri Lanka unveils South Asias tallest tower, funded by China
- SriLanka unveiled South Asia’s tallest tower, costing over $100 million, 80% of which has been funded by China under the controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
- The 350-metre-tall 17-storey Lotus Tower, located in the heart of Colombo city, comprises a television tower, a hotel, a telecommunications museum, restaurants, auditorium, an observation deck, a shopping mall and a conference centre.
- The tower, spread over an area of 30,600 sq. metres constructed at a cost of over $100 million.

Kerala govt inks MoU with Maldives on cancer care
- Kerala signs a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maldives to strengthen cancer care in the island nation.
- The Kerala government and the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) have jointly signed the MOU with the health ministry of Maldives as part of improving cooperation between the two countries.
- The MoU was signed between Maldivian Minister Abdulla Ameen and Kerala Health Minister KK Shylaja in the presence of the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

- She said the hardest part of the swim was dealing with the saltwater, which left her throat and mouth sore.
Dinesh Mongia announces retirement froms all form of cricket
- Former Indian Cricket all-rounder Dinesh Mongia announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
- He ended with an aggregate of 57 ODIs but never played a Test.
- His first-class record of 121 matches included 21 centuries.
Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian wrestler to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics
- India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat qualified for the 2020 Olympics after beating fancied American Sarah Hildebrandt in the World Championships in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan.
- She scored an impressive 8-2 win over the world championship silver medalist to secure her place at the Tokyo Games.

- The missile was tracked using radars, electro-optical tracking sensors and struck its target successfully.
- The missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the premier research and development organisation of the armed forces.

Documentary On Farmer From Remote Himalayan Village Nominated for Oscars
- Moti Bagh, a documentary based on a Uttarakhand farmer’s life nominated for the Oscars.
- The documentary film, directed by Nirmal Chander is based on the life of a farmer called Vidyadutt.
- The film explains about the issue of migration of people from villages, especially from the remote villages in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand.
- The film covers Nepali farmers who settled in the region to plug in the gap and faced discrimination at the same time with locals calling them names like Nepali and Bahadur.

- Veteran music director Usha Khanna has been awarded the Maharashtra government’s “Lata Mangeshkar Award” for the year 2019-20.
- The award was instituted in 1993 and consists of Rs 5,00,000 cash, a citation and a memento.
- The previous recipients of the award include Krishna Kalle, Ram-Laxman, Uttam Singh, Pushpa Pagdhare and other personalities.

American historian and Francis Parkman awardee Jean Edward Smith passed away
- Washington (America) born famous historian Jean Edward Smith passed away at the age of 86 in Huntington, West Virginia, America, after suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
- His final book “The Liberation of Paris,” about how Allied forces drove Nazi occupiers out of Paris in 1944, was published in July 2019.
