ICICI Bank launches new FD scheme “FD health”
- ICICI Bank has launched a fixed deposit scheme called FD Health, that comes with an in-built critical insurance policy.
- The FD Health – Critical illness Cover will be provided to only the primary holder of the FD account.
- Anyone in the age bracket of 18-50 years, gets this complimentary insurance cover for a year on 33 critical illnesses.
- For the first year, free of cost insurance cover will be provided which can be renewed later.
- The new FD scheme from ICICI bank offers a complimentary critical illness cover of Rs. 1 lakh from ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company on opening an FD of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh for a tenure of at least two years.
- The critical illness cover will be available on Cumulative FDs opened for a period of a minimum of 2 years.

RBI stopped printing Rs.2000 currency notes
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it has stopped the printing of Rs.2,000 currency notes.
- The Central Bank also revealed that not even a single Rs.2,000 note had been printed in the current financial year, FY 2019-20.
- RBI said that the high circulation of Rs.2,000 notes will defeat the government’s motive as smuggling the high-denomination notes are easier.

- Air India became the first airline in the world to use a Taxibot on a A320 aircraft with passengers on board.
- Taxibot is a robot-used aircraft tractor for taxiing an aircraft from parking bay to runway and vice versa.
- The national carrier’s Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani flagged off flight AI665, which was carried to runway using Taxibot at terminal 3 of the Delhi airport to Mumbai.

- Secretary Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Guruprasad Mohapatra launched the website and mobile application L2Pro India [Learn to Protect, Secure and Maximize Your Innovation] on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).
- The website and app have been developed by Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM)-DPIIT in collaboration with Qualcomm and National Law University (NLU), Delhi.

Centre to launch Vigyan Jyoti
- Centre is to launch Vigyan Jyoti, a program to help girl students inculcate interest in areas like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
- The move comes after the assessment that a meager percentage of women are in the STEM area.
- Department of Science and Technology (DST) data said that females comprised 24% of the total pas-out students in STEM subjects in engineering, 22% at the postgraduate level, 28% at M.Phil, and 35% at the Ph.D. level.
- AIM: Vigyan Jyoti initiative aims to stir up interest among the Indian girl students to get into the STEM educational areas. The initiative will be launched in October 2019.

Indian Railways launched Sewa Service trains
- Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal launched the Sewa Service trains on 14 October 2019.
- He flagged off the Delhi-Shamli daily passenger train from the New Delhi railway station.
- Indian Railways announced that it is to launch 10 Sewa Service trains.
- The Sewa Service trains will include daily trains between Delhi and Shamli, Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh town, Murkongselex and Dibrugarh, Kota and Jhalawar city and Coimbatore and Palani.
- Other Sewa Service trains that will run six days a week will run from Vadnagar to Mahesana, Asarya to Himmatnagar, Karur to Salem, Yesvantpur to Tumkur and Coimbatore to Pollachi.

Three Mumbai landmarks won UNESCO Asia Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation
- Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue at Kala Ghoda, Gloria Church in Byculla, and Flora Fountain, three-city landmarks, of Mumbai won the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation for the year 2019.
- The award recognized Mumbai’s heritage conservation movement under which the three city landmarks were spruced up.

Govt launches Food Safety Mitra Scheme
- Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan launched Food Safety Mitra Scheme, Eat Right Jacket and Eat Right Jhola.
- Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced the scheme of Food Safety Mitra (FSM) through which it plans to engage motivated individuals with the food safety ecosystem at ground level.

CBIC launches programme to strengthen Make in India
- Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has launched a revamped and streamlined programme to attract investments into India and strengthen Make in India through manufacture and other operations under the bond scheme, of Customs Act, 1962.
- The Section enables conduct of manufacture and other operations in a customs bonded warehouse.
- The scheme has been modernized with clear and transparent procedures, simplified compliance requirements ICT-based documentation and account keeping, by the issue of Manufacture and Other Operations in Warehouse Regulations 2019.
- CBIC has collaborated with Invest India to launch a dedicated microsite for providing information and promoting the scheme and for the facilitation of investors.

India and Netherlands launched the second phase of LOTUS HR in New Delhi
- The 2nd phase of an Indo-Dutch project called Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse, or LOTUS-HR was launched at Barapullah drain in New Delhi.
- This project was launched by Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan and the Dutch Royal couple, Netherlands King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima.
- The (LOTUS-HR) project was set up in 2017 at the Sun Dial Park here as part of a collaboration between the governments of India and the Netherlands.
2nd Phase of LOTUS-HR:
- In the second Phase of LOTUS-HR, 10 thousand litre, sewage water will be treated per day.
- Both the Dutch and Indian companies are contributing to the second phase of the project by sharing their existing technologies.
- A new plant, which is to be commissioned soon, will treat 10,000 L sewage water per day.

India ranked 102 in Global Hunger Index 2019
- The 2019 Global Hunger Index (GHI) indicates that the level of hunger and undernutrition worldwide falls into the serious category.
- As per the index, India ranks 102nd out of 117 qualifying countries, with a score of 30.3.
- India has slipped from 95th rank in 2010 to 102nd in 2019 on the Global Hunger Index (GHI).
- Seventeen countries, including Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Cuba and Kuwait, shared the top rank with GHI scores less than 5.
- There were only four countries in the alarming hunger category are Madagascar, Chad, Yemen and the Central African Republic in the extremely alarming hunger category.

IIT Madras to collaborate with ExxonMobil for research in Energy and Biofuels
- IIT Madras will collaborate with ExxonMobil on Research in Energy and Biofuels.
- The 5-year joint-research agreement focuses on biofuels, data analytics, gas conversion and transport, and is intended towards finding low-emission solutions.
- ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (EMRE) for research on energy and biofuels is the research and engineering arm of ExxonMobil Corporation, a leading global oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals company.
- ExxonMobil works with over 80 universities around the world.
- India is the 3rd highest producer of agro-residues globally with the surplus potential of over 230 million tonnes per year after China and Brazil.
KVIC signed MoU with GAIL under KVIC gift coupon scheme
- The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) won an Rs.5.88 crore deal from the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) under KVIC’s gift coupon scheme.
- GAIL agreed to gift Khadi coupons of Rs.2,500 to each of its 23,504 employees in all its units across the nation.
- KVIC gift coupon scheme:
- KVIC gift coupon scheme was launched for the first time in 2017. So far, gift coupons of face value worth Rs.89.29 crores have been sold. It indicates that people have started to adopt Khadi in place of other international brands.

- The lab will be set up by the end of 2020.
- The agreement will seek help from the Amsterdam Innovation Arena program, Netherlands.
- The lab will help startups gather real-time data on urban infrastructure.

Anoop Kumar is appointed as the new Union Law Secretary
- Anoop Kumar Mendiratta is appointed as the new Union Law Secretary.
- This is the first time such an appointment has been made. Anoop Kumar is currently the serving District and Sessions Judge in the North-East District, Karkardooma Courts, New Delhi.
- He will serve in the position till 30 March 2023, or until he attains the age of 60.
J.P.S. Chawla assumes charge as new Controller General of Accounts
- Government of India has appointed J. P. S. Chawla, (1985-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer) as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure.
- He will replace Girraj Prasad Gupta.
Kishan Dan Dewal concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to Georgia
- Kishan Dan Dewal (IFS officer of 2003 batch), has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to Georgia.
- He will replace Yogeshwar Sangwan. Dewal is presently serving as Ambassador of India to the Republic of Armenia.

- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed the super-over rule for all its major events following the uproar over the outcome of the men’s World Cup final this year when England was declared winners against New Zealand on boundary count.
- As per new rule, in case of a super over tie, there will be a repeated super over until one team has more runs than the other.

Zimbabwe, Nepal readmitted as ICC members
- Zimbabwe and Nepal were re-admitted as ICC members in a meeting held in Dubai.
- Zimbabwe will now be able to take up their place in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup in January and the ICC Super League later in 2020.
- Zimbabwe Cricket had been suspended from membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with immediate effect in July this year.
- Nepal had been banned in 2016 for “governmental interference” as well.

Mercedes’s Valtteri Bottas won 2019 Japanese Grand Prix
- Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas (Finland) won the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix held at the Suzuka International Racing Course in Suzuka in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

Mumbai teenager becomes youngest cricketer to score 200
- Mumbai teenager Yashasvi Jaiswal today became the youngest cricketer to score 200, making it the ninth instance of an Indian scoring a List A double-ton.
- Playing in his debut Vijay Hazare season, the 17-year-old scored 203 off 154 balls against Jharkhand at Bengaluru.
- His score comprised 12 sixes and 17 fours.
