National Education Day Observed on 11 November

  • In India, the National Education Day is celebrated on 11 November every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India.
  • The day was announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on 11 September 2008.
  • Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as education minister from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958.

  • ‘RBI Kehta Hai’ was the first even 360-degree campaign initiated by the central bank using all mass media, including media such as television, radio, newspapers, hoardings, web banners, gifs, social media and SMS.

  • The United Nations has created a new alliance to prevent COVID-19 food crisis.
  • It was proposed by Italy and led by Food and Agriculture Organization.
  • The coalition will mobilise resources, innovation and expertise.
  • It will advocate for coordinated COVID-19 response

  • In Maharashtra, the Central Railway workshop at Parel in Mumbai has manufactured a fifth Narrow Gauge locomotive which will chug between Kalka to Shimla route.
  • It is the fifth locomotive which has been manufactured in this workshop for the Northern Railway in one of the most sought-after hill stations in the country.
  • It is the fifth Narrow Gauge engine that has been manufactured by the Central Railway which will run between Kalka to Shimla, a UNESCO World Heritage Railway.

Punjab withdraws general consent to CBI

  • Punjab had revoked/withdrawn the general consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
  • From now, CBI will have to take permission from the state government to investigate any case.
  • This comes within a week after Jharkhand and Kerala decided to withdraw the general consent to CBI.

Azim Premji tops Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020

  • Azim Premji, the founder-chairman of Wipro Ltd has topped the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020.
  • The 75-year-old, made the highest contribution of Rs 7,904 crore between April 2019 and March 2020 towards philanthropic causes.
  • The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020 is compiled by the EdelGive Foundation and Hurun Research Institute. It is the seventh edition of the annual list.
  • It ranks individuals from India who donated Rs 5 crore and above between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020 towards philanthropic contributions.
  • Shiv Nadar, founder and chairman of HCL Technologies, ranked second (Rs 795 crore) on the list. He topped the list in 2019.
  • India’s richest man and the chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani stood at the third spot (Rs 458 crore).
  • Twenty-eight philanthropists entered EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020 for the first time.

  • It is the world’s first CRISPR CaS-9 based diagnostic tool and is powered by FELUDA.
  • TataMD CHECK has been approved by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
  • This new diagnostic testing for COVID-19 has been developed within a short span of 100 days of the licensing of technology.

Mega Scope launched by IIT Alumni Council for personalized health care

  • IIT Alumni Council has launched “MegaScope” for personalized healthcare.
  • MegaScope has been launched to include testing, data analysis and genomics to precisely diagnose infections and to prescribe personalised medicines.
  • MegaScope will add host genome data mapping along with Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and data backbone to the MegaLab initiative.
  • The main aim of MegaScope is to improve accuracy of testing, prediction of likely disease severity and progression, enhance efficiency of treatment and avoid casualties.
