National Sports day Awards is observed every year to spread awareness about the importance of sports and games in the life of every individual.
- The Day remembers the Famous Sports Personality Dhyan Chand who was born on August 29, 1905 in Allahabad who was one of the greatest field hockey player of all the time.
- He is Famously Known as “ The Wizard” because he displayed superb ball control and extraordinary goal-scoring feats.
- Won three Olympic gold medals in Hockey in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936.
- Conferred with Padma Bhushan in 1956.
