– Forest Fire – Natural or Man Made Disaster?
Forests are one of the most beautiful gifts given to mankind by
God. They are not only essential for our sustainability but also provide
habitat for various flora and fauna. But today we are on verge of losing these
precious gifts to one of the most underrated catastrophes known as forest
fires. The recent forest fires in Uttarakhand are the proof of it. Forest fire
can be natural or man-made depending on its cause.
Natural forest fires are
generally caused by lightning. However, it is mostly accompanied by rain,
therefore damage caused due to it is comparatively less. Weather conditions
such as temperature and humidity also play a role in determining the
combustibility of a forest. Man-made fire is mostly the result of human
carelessness. Such fires are usually caused due to smoking, camp fires,
fireworks, slash and burn farming, etc. It has been seen that majority of the
forest fires are human-caused. Forest degradation and loss of biodiversity are
two major consequences of forest fires. This results in reduction of forest
cover and loss of wildlife habitat leading to their depletion.
This also paves the way for various environmental challenges like
global warming and ozone later depletion. The destruction of forest resources
result in loss of livelihood for many people who depend on these resources for
their living. We can conclude that forest fires, though usually underrated, are
one of the most dangerous disasters. They not only affect the forest and the
living beings but also imbalance the nature. Therefore in order to tackle these
disasters effectively, proper strategies should be made and awareness should be
created within public. Forests are one of the most beautiful gifts given

SauravForest Fire – Natural or Man Made Disaster?
While there may be numerous burning issues to be addressed
worldwide but the phenomena of forest burning has to be treated utmost
sincerity. At recent time our country to have witnessed such blazes be it
Uttarakhand or HImachal Pradesh. Imbalance in the ecology, loss of biodiversity
and increment of air pollutions are few of alarming effects of forest fire.
When moisture level of soil goes down and environment warms up and friction
between bamboos due to high velocity winds are major causes for forest
burnings. But the hind side of the picture is mankind itself is causing problem
for its living, sometimes intentionally and sometimes being ignorant.
Human activity like grazing of cattle in the forest or to obtain
woods for cooking purposes, the century old practice of villagers to use fire
for ward off wild animals. Environmentalist suspect that much of fire
deliberately stoked to shrink the forest cover and expand the human
habitation.  The causes of forest fire
have been increasing rapidly. The problem has been aggravated due to growth of
human and cattle population.it has been estimated that 90% of the forest fire
in India are man-made. Its due time that government acts wilfully in this
regard, infiltration, encroachment and advanced fire management techniques are
the areas to be addressed sooner than later.
The omission of greenhouse gases by wood burning will enhance the
ozone layer depletion, loss of lively hood will take place especially in the
tribal areas. Furthermore wood is a wealthy resource which should be used
tactfully. Reduction of the forest cover will also cause soil erosion. India
government rightly trying to implement the national master plan for forest fire
control. For success fire management and administration a National fire
fighting force team equipped and trained for this specific task is the need of
the hour.
PriyankaForest Fire – Natural or Man Made Disaster?
Forest fire is one of the most
horrible disasters we often face .Forest fire is an uncontrollable fire occurs
in forests destructing uncountable precious trees. It is the most damaging
unwanted disaster. Forest fires deeply affect climate & weather & have
serious impacts on atmospheric pollution. The major causes of forest fire
include lightning, volcanic eruption, droughts, increased temperature &
climatic changes like El Nino etc. However in most cases, forest fire is the
effect of human negligence. Some human caused fires from unattended campfire,
discarded cigarettes, sparks from various equipments & many more.
In worst cases it is all intentional.
Fire intensity also increases during day time due to increased temperature,
lower humidity & increased wind speeds. Global Warming, rapid climate
change & drought in nationwide also contribute to forest fire. Sometimes
forest fire causes massive destruction as firefighting members find it
difficult to gain control over situation. Forest fires have continually been a
threat to human. The most adverse effect of forest fire is destruction of
property & belongings.
The release of dangerous chemicals
from the burning significantly affect animals as well as human health, as the
smoke contains carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, benzene etc .
Thus fast detection is the key factor of forest fire prevention with the
effective utilization of modern technologies like installing sensors &
using GPS technology during fire lookouts, ground & aerial patrolling. As
this will not only save the destruction of trees, loss of human & wild
lives but also prevent the earth from added global warming.
