Once you are done with the concept building, you need to do rigorous practice to score more in actual exam. This will help you improve your speed and accuracy. Make a Topic Wise Schedule according to your convenience.  Attempt daily mocks and analyze it.

Here are some of the Tips and Tricks to Solve Reasoning Questions Quickly:

(I) Get the clear picture of whole syllabus and weightage of each topic in different exams. Learn the Basic Concepts first.

(II) Consistency is the key. Make sure you solve different problems each day. It will help you develop the lateral thinking.

(III) Attempt Sectional Mocks:

Attempt at least 2-3 sectional mocks in a week to increase your speed and accuracy.

(IV) Analyze the mocks you attempted:

If you are attempting the mocks but not giving enough time to analyze the mock, then it is waste of time. Because, without analysis, you won’t be able to identify your strong and weak areas. You will have to make the strategy according to your Strong and weak areas.

(V) Be clear in Selection the Questions:

This is the important factor in scoring more marks. Because wrong selection of questions will lead to wasting of time and confidence both. While attempting this Section, just have a look on all sets. If you find difficulty level moderate-tough, you can simply skip 2-3 sets. But decide first which one to attempt and which one to skip.

(VI) Have full Concentration while solving any set:

In this section, concentration is the key to attempt the questions within minimum time. For that, you need to read the data carefully. Take care of prepositions such as to, of, from it changes the meaning completely. If indirect information given, note down that also. It will help you eliminate the different possibilities.

Important Topics in Reasoning Ability:

(1) Inequalities – Tricks to Solve Analytical Reasoning Questions:

Inequality is one of the easiest and less time consuming topic. Generally, there are 5 questions from this topic. If have practiced enough, you don’t need to use pen and paper to solve these questions. In inequality questions, there will be different number of elements and you will have to find out the relation between them. You will be provided with a statement consisting a group of elements. These elements will be having a certain coded relationship among them which is denoted by different inequality symbols like >, <, = etc.

There are six different cases for conclusion( Example of two elements A and B ) :

Conclusion : A ≥ B. This conclusion will be true if and only if there is either ‘≥’ or ‘=’ between A and B in an equation.

Example : A ≥ D ≥ C = B, A = P ≥ M ≥ N = B

Conclusion : A ≤ B. This conclusion will be true if and only if there is either ‘≤’ or ‘=’between A and B in an equation.

Example : A  ≤ W ≤ X ≤ B, A=P = M ≤N=B

Conclusion : A = B. This conclusion will be true if there is ‘=’sign throughout all the elements between A and B in equation.

Example : A = F = K = B

Conclusion : A > B. This conclusion will be true if and only if there is either ‘>’ or combination of ( ‘>’ with ‘≥’ or ‘=’ ).

Example : A ≥ M > L ≥ B, A > R = T ≥ B

Conclusion : A < B. This conclusion will be true if and only if there is either ‘<’ or combination of  (‘<’ with ‘≤’ or ‘=’ ).

Example :A < F < J < B, A = N ≤ L ≤ W < B

Conclusion : A ≠ B ( Relation can’t be established ) . If there is any condition except mentioned above, then relation can’t be established.

Example : A > S < B, A < W = T ≥ B

(6) Syllogism – Tricks to Solve Analytical Reasoning Questions:

Four-five questions are asked in prelims as well in mains examination from syllogism. 3-4 statements are given and some conclusion based on the statements. You will have to find out whether conclusion is true or not. You can solve it by drawing Venn diagram and formula. Draw the Venn Diagram of each statement. Memorize the formula and practice well. Try to practice different type of patterns. Don’t be confused with words. Here both following sentences have same meaning : Some A can be B. Some A being B is possibility. Some questions can directly be answered without Venn Diagram. For Example

Statements :

(I) Some A are B

(II) Some B are C

(III) All C are D.

Conclusion :

(I) Some A are not D : Here in the statement, there is no negative statement. So any definite negative conclusion will be false. ( If it was given Some A not being D is possibility then conclusion would be true. )

(7) Seating Arrangement – Tricks to Solve Logical Reasoning Questions:

In such questions, usually a group of people is given who sit in a raw or sit around Square/Rectangle/Circular table. First learn the basic terminologies that are used in Seating arrangement. Because many students get confused with some sentences. For example, A sits three places away from B. This means there are three persons between A and B. It would have meant that there were two people between A & B and direction is not fixed. It can be either

A _ _ B or B _ _ A.  If required, make different possible diagrams. But before making multiple diagrams, read next two statements also. Sometimes, one possibility can be eliminated and you won’t be required to draw that. Try all the required possibilities simultaneously .  While making the diagram, you will left with one diagram after eliminating the arrangements which are not possible according to statements. Try to cross check with statements within 30 seconds.

First Scan all the puzzles within 40-50 seconds and then decide the sequence in which you want to solve all the puzzles. Now Start with easy ones first. Start making diagrams with each sentences. Select the information that is giving you direct information. While solving puzzles, you don’t have to use some kind of data in diagram, but you have to keep in mind while solving it. Try all the required possibilities simultaneously.

For ex. P doesn’t live on third floor. This data doesn’t help you in making diagram, but you have to keep in mind. Note down such points, this will help you to eliminate the diagram. While writing the parameters given in the Puzzle, you can write only first letter of that parameter to save the time. ( If another word is there with same first letter, then use whole world. Don’t get stuck on a particular set for a long time. When taking too much time, move on to a next set.

(10) Machine Input – Tricks to Solve Analytical Reasoning Questions:

Machine Input Output Section carries weightage of 5 marks in Bank Exams. Most important topics for mains exam.  In such questions, you are given an arrangement word and number arrangement.  With each subsequent step, the arrangement of the words and numbers changes and it follows a particular pattern. These steps are performed until a final arrangement is reached. You have to identify the pattern that followed in all the steps. You will be given another arrangement of word and number. Then you need to follow the same pattern for given arrangement.

First step to solve machine input is to have a look on Input sequence and Output ( Last Step ) sequence. In most of the sequence, you will find some arrangement in last step. I.e. Apple Cricket Pink 14 35 89.  Here Words are in ascending order alphabetically from left to right and numbers are in decreasing order from right to left.

(11) Data Sufficiency- Tricks to Solve Critical Reasoning Questions:

In this type of questions, you will be given a question with 2-3 statements. You will have to find out whether answer information given in all Statement is sufficient or not to answer the question. First try to find the answer using each statement separately. if statement I is sufficient means then must try statement II also. Because there is either I & II.  If both statements separately are not sufficient to answer the question, combine them and check answer can be concluded or not. If information given in Statement I alone is sufficient, then three options can be eliminated : One in which it is given that Statement II alone is sufficient, One in which it is given that answer can be given by combining both sentences I and II and One in which it is given that both statements are not sufficient to answer the question.
