All About Scheme for Translational & Advanced Research in Science (STARS):

  • The ministry of Human Resource Development has approved Scheme for Translational and Advanced Research. The Scheme was launched by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on National Science Day.
  • Main Objective of the Scheme is to fund science projects. Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has approved fund of Rs 250 Crore for this Scheme. Around 500 projects will be funded in this Scheme.  The selection of these projects would be done on the basis of competitions.
  • The project will be coordinated by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Interested candidates will have to submit applications to take part in the competition.

  • Ministry has announced to launch professional courses which would include 1000 hours of additional coursework out of which 250 will be dedicated to soft and ICT skilling and rest 500 hours will be dedicated to specific skill courses. These courses will be open from this academic session onwards.
