Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Bhutan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a red-carpet welcome as he arrived in Bhutan on a two-day state visit during which he will hold talks with Bhutanese leaders to further deepen the bilateral ties. This is Modi’s second visit to Bhutan and the first since his re-election. Bhutaneses PM Lotay Tshering Welcomed PM Modi and received a Guard of Honour.

- PM Modi attends a cultural program at Tashichhoedzong Palace in Thimphu.
- India and Bhutan inaugurated the Thimphu Ground Station of the South Asia Satellite and expanded our space cooperation. Through satellites, benefits of tele- medicine , distance education, resource mapping, weather forecast and even warning of natural disasters and reach even remote areas.
- PM Modi planted a Cypress tree sapling at historic Simtoka Dzong (Oldest fortress in Himalayan Nation) in Thimphu in presence of his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering.
- Mangdechhu Hydroelectric power plant of 720 MW was inaugurated on Mangdechhu River in Trongsa Dzongkhag district of Central Bhutan. This is remarked as a Bhutan- India friendship Project.
- PM Modi launched Rupay card in Bhutan by making a purchase at Simtokha Dzong . India announced that an additional $100 million will be available to Bhutan under SAARC currency swap framework to meet foreign exchange requirement.
MOU’s SIGNED
- Power Purchase Agreement between PTC India Ltd. The leading provider of power trading solutions in India and Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd in Bhutan for sale and Purchase of Mangdechhu power.
- MoU between Bhutan’s Department of Information Technology and Telecom and ISRO on establishment of SATCOM Network for utilization of South Asia Satellite ( Known as GSAT 9)
- MoU between Bhutan’s Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) and India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau on cooperation on Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation.
- MoU for Interconnection between National Knowledge Network of India and Druk Research and Education Network of Bhutan.
