Daily Word List – Set 24



Hello and welcome to ExamPundit. Here is the 24th Set of Daily Word List.

1. Motley: made up of
strikingly different components.
Example: The motley group of job applicants included
a retired teacher, a recently released convict, and a sixteen-year-old girl.
2. Apprehend:
to catch a person for criminal reasons.
Example: Hopefully
the law enforcement agents will apprehend
the killer before he harms anyone else.
3. Platitude:
something that has been said so often that it is not interesting anymore.
Example: Because
I have heard your platitude a
hundred times, it means nothing to me now.
4. Scathing: extremely
severe or harsh.
Example: The scathing remarks brought tears to my
eyes.
5. Ramification:
a change that makes a situation more complicated
Example: Before
you quit your job, make sure you are aware of the ramification of not having a salary to pay your bills.
6. Stalemate: a situation in which movement is not possible
by either side.
Example: A stalemate was reached when neither of
the chess players could make a legitimate move.
7. Discreet:
not attracting attention; being careful about what one says or does to
avoid embarrassing or upsetting others.
Example: Hoping
to avoid detection, the shoplifter tried to be discreet while walking through the store.
8. Insidious:
something that is slowly and secretly causing harm.
Example: The insidious playboy planned to con the
heiress out of her fortune.
9. Aplomb: confidence
and skill shown, especially in a difficult situation; keeping your cool.
Example: Because
the negotiator handled the hostage situation with aplomb, the kidnapper released everyone without harm.
10. Insipid:
dull or boring.
Example: The soup
lacks the right seasoning and tastes insipid.
