New Initiative by UGC:  STRIDE to boost research culture

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a new initiative – Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy (STRIDE).
  • The Objective of this scheme is to boost research culture in the country.
  • Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched this scheme.
  • This scheme will strengthen research culture and innovation in colleges and Universities.
  • STRIDE will help students and faculty to contribute towards India’s developing economy with the help of collaborative research.
  • An advisory committee has been set up by the UGC under the chairmanship of professor Bhushan Patwardhan to oversee the entire scheme.

AYUSH, MeitY ministries to collaborate for digitisation of AYUSH sector

  • The Ministries of AYUSH and Electronics and Information Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the digitization of the AYUSH sector.
  • the Ministry aims to digitize the entire AYUSH, leading to transformation in the field of health care delivery at all levels, along with greater research, education, delivery of various health care programmes and better drug regulations.

Rajasthan: Kalu Police station bags 1st Rank in assessment by Home ministry

  • Kalu Police station bagged First Rank in an assessment by the Home ministry of 15 thousand 666 police stations across the country.
  • In Rajasthan, Kalu police station in the Bikaner district has set an example towards crime control and preventive action.

J&K: Operation Khumaar launched to make 312 panchayats tobacco-free

  • In Jammu and Kashmir a campaign has been launched in Rajouri, a border district of Jammu division called “Operation Khumaar” to make 312 panchayats tobacco-free.
  • The programme is run by the district administration to make panchayats free from tobacco and tobacco-based products.
  • Under this programme, even the headmaster of the schools have been authorised to impose a fine on the sale of tobacco within 100 yards of school limits.

Radio Kashmir launches special 100 Watt FM transmitter for Amarnath Yatra

  • Radio Kashmir Srinagar launched a special 100 Watt FM transmitter for annual Swami Amarnathji Yatra at Baltal base camp.
  • The special transmission from 7.00 AM to 11.00 p.m. will be providing information to the pilgrims regarding to weather condition, security and other related arrangements details.
  • Ministry of Culture, Govt of India has provided Bhajans and other software for the specially set-up Baltal FM.

Devendra Fadnavis launches ambitious project of planting 33 crore saplings within two months

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the state’s ambitious project of planting 33 crore saplings within next two months.
  • Maharashtra will soon be known as Harit Rajya or a Green State,
  • Of the 33 crore target for 2019, state Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said  that the government has adopted the Japanese ‘Miyawaki’ pattern of plantation to increase forest cover

New Zealand bans single use of Plastic Bags

  • David Warner of Australia has emerged as the leading run scorer in the current edition of World Cup. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the two Indians in the top 10 leading run-getters in the Championship.

Sports Minister announces increase in diet budget of all athletes to bring parity

  • Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has announced an increase in diet budget of all athletes to bring parity.
  • The move will impact 12,500 athletes training in various centres of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Sports Ministry will release an additional amount of 150 crore rupees annually to fund the new diet budget.
  • Earlier, the diet budget for SAI trainees was 250 rupees. For junior athletes, the diet budget was 480 rupees and for senior athletes, it was 690 rupees.

Former India leg-spinner Rakesh Shukla passes away

  • Rakesh Shukla, former India leg-spinner, passed away in Delhi at an age of 71.
  • He had represented Delhi and Bihar in First-Class cricket and earned his Test cap against Sri Lanka in 1982.
  • He played 121 first class matches, claimed 295 wickets and aggregated 3798 runs.

Odia film Producer Keshav Rout passed away at an age of 68.
