  • National Statistics Day observed every year on 29th June across the country.
  • The objective to observe this day is to create public awareness about the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
  • The day also acknowledges notable contribution of Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in fields of statistics, statistical system and economic.
  • GOI on this occasion will release the handbook of National Indicator Framework (NIF).
  • NIF has been developed by Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI).
  • This NIF will be utilised to measure the progress of the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’.
  • Theme for 2019: “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”

30th June: International Asteroid Day

  • International Asteroid Day is observed on 30th June every year.
  • The objective of this day to raise awareness about the role of asteroids in the formation of our universe, how their resources can be used in the future, how asteroids provide the way for future exploration and also how we can protect our planet from the impacts of asteroids.

1st July: National Doctors Day

  • On 1st of July National Doctors Day is observed across the nation.
  • National Doctor’s Day is observed to honour the legendary physician and West Bengal’s second Chief Minister, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
  • Theme: “Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishment”
  • The theme will raise awareness about the violence happening with the doctors across India.
  • The week of July 1 to Jul 8, 2019, will also be celebrated as ‘Safe Fraternity Week’.
  • This day remind us to thank our doctors in providing us selfless service and health care.
  • National Doctor’s Day is first celebrated in July 1991.

HRD Ministry releases 5-year vision plan on Quality Education

  • The Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Human Resource Development has released a five-year vision plan named Education Quality Upgradation and Inclusion Programme (EQUIP).
  • The five-year plan covers ten focus areas like Strategies for expanding access, Towards global best teaching/learning process, Promoting Excellence, Governance reforms, Assessment, Accreditation & Ranking systems, Promotion of research & innovation, Employability & entrepreneurship, Using Technology for better reach, Internationalisation, Financing higher education.

Women and Child Development Ministry prepares Draft National Policy for women empowerment

  • The Women and Child Development Ministry has prepared a Draft National Policy for women empowerment.

NDMA conducts multi-state mock exercise on earthquake in Delhi, NCR

NALCO to get President’s award for excellent CSR in social development

  • Odisha-based Navaratna Company NALCO has been selected for President’s award for utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund in social development.

Nationwide Jal Shakti Abhiyan to be launched

  • Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan scheme.
  • The objective of this scheme is to accelerate water harvesting and conservation measures.
  • Over 250 officers, including Additional and Joint Secretaries, have been appointed as in-charge of water-stressed districts in the country to plan ways to conserve the natural resource.
  • They have been appointed as Central Prabhari Officers of 255 water-stressed districts for coordinating the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
  • They will visit identified blocks and districts, and coordinate the implementation of various water harvesting and conservation measures.

 72nd Foundation day of AIR Guwahati station on 1st July

  • All India Radio, Guwahati station celebrated its 72nd Foundation Day today.

UP Government launched a Campaign to eradicate AES

  • UP Government a large scale campaign to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis Syndrome and Japanese Encephalitis disease.
  • UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath started the campaign against communicative diseases and also started DASTAK campaign.
  • Under this state-wide campaign teams will go door to door in every village of the 75 districts of the state to create awareness about the communicable diseases as well as JE and AES.

Abu Dhabi to host first ISA’s joint security exercise ISALEX19

  • Representatives of 50 law enforcement agencies of the International Security Alliance are taking part in the first joint security exercise named ISALEX19 in Abu Dhabi.
  • The participants include representatives from tactical teams, rapid intervention units, communications, civil defence, and explosive ordnance disposal, teams.

SPORTS

Veer wins U-19 Asian Squash title

  • In Squash, India won gold today as Veer Chotrani beat compatriot Yash Fadte to win the Under-19 title at the Asian Junior Championship in Macau, China.
  • Veer became the third Indian to win the Asian trophy after Ravi Dixit and Vela Senthilkumar.
  • India finished the tournament with one gold, three silver and as many bronze medals.
