  • 27th June is celebrated as micro, small and medium-sized enterprises day.
  • MSME Day 2019 is dedicated to raising awareness of the need for greater investment into small and mid-sized businesses in developing countries.
  • The United Nations General Assembly declared 27 June to be MSME Day by adopting resolution 71/279.
  • United Nations will launch its flagship report: “The SME Competitiveness Outlook 2019: Big money for small businesses”.

MHA released the name of top three SMART police stations in the country

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released the name of top three SMART police stations in the country.
  • The three best police stations in the country are in Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and West Bengal.
  • The Kalu police station in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district is ranked number 1 as it had all facilities such as a women’s help desk, drinking water facilities and Wi-Fi.
  • The second in the rank is Campbell Bay in Nicobar district. It has a child-friendly room and a separate waiting room for complainants and visitors.
  • The Farakka police station in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district is ranked third as it has air conditioners, gymnasium, CCTV cameras and a comfortable environment for police-public interaction.
  • SMART Police concept was announced by Prime Minister at the 49th annual conference Directors General/Inspectors General held in Guwahati in November, 2014.

  • Prime Minister NarendraModi today held his first bi-lateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Osaka ahead of the G-20 summit.
  • Both the countries discussed various issues of mutual interest & agreed to expand the strategic template of relationship between them.

Amitabh Kant gets two-year extension as NITIAayog CEO

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of Mr Kant’s tenure for a further period of two years beyond June 30, 2019, i.e. up to June 30, 2021, on the same terms and conditions.

AGREEMENTS& MOUs

MoA signed to set up Centre for Inland & Coastal Maritime Technology at IIT Kharagpur

  • A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Ministry of Shipping and IIT, Kharagpur for setting up the Centre for Inland and Coastal Maritime Technology.
  • The Centre will focus on indigenisation of ship designing, building and testing.
  • The MoA was signed by IIT Kharagpur Director, Professor Partha P Chakraborty, and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping, Kailash Kumar Aggarwal in the presence of Shipping Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya in New Delhi.

Eminent social activist JharnaDharaChowdhury passes away

  • Eminent Social Activist and secretary of the Gandhi Ashram Trust in Jayag, Noakhali, Bangladesh JharnaDharaChowdhury passed away in Dhaka.
  • She devoted her whole life to promoting peace, communal harmony and social justice.
  • JharnaDharaChowdhury was honoured with Padma Shri in 2013 and Jamnalal Bajaj award in 1998.

Veteran actor, director VijayaNirmala passes away

  • Veteran South Indian film actor and director VijayaNirmala passed away at an age of 73.
  • Nirmala, born in Tamil Nadu, made her debut at the age of seven as a child artiste in a Tamil movie MachchaRekhai (1950).
