Government schools to introduce self-defence training programmes for girls

  • Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched Integrated Scheme for School Education named SamagraShiksha.
  • The government has introduced a self-defence training programme for girls under SamagraShiksha so as to make them strong.
  • Self Defence training will be imparted to girls from classes 6 to 12 stuyding in government schools.
  • Government will provide Rs 3,000 per month for a period of three months to all Government-run school for this Programme.

Government to launch Universal Smart Card Driving License

  • Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to modify the format of driving licenses to smart card type driving licences.
  • Flagship application of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways named SARATHI developed by NIC, has a common countrywide database of all driving license holders.
  • Almost 15 crore driving license records are available in its central repository.

Maharashtra Government to step up mechanism to redress farmers’ grievances

Maharashtra to get floating solar power generation plants on four dams

  • Maharashtra Water Resources Minister GirishMahajan announced that Maharashtra is all set to get floating solar power generation plants in four dams.
  • The estimated investment per megawatt is Rs 4.45 crore, with a total installed capacity of 500 MW
  • A committee headed by the executive director of the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC) is currently scrutinising the detailed project report and drafting the tenders.

J&K govt starts ‘Back to Village’ Programme to connect with rural people

  • Jammu and Kashmir government has started ‘Back to Village’ Programme from 20th to 27th June 2019, an initiative to connect with the rural people.
  • This initiative involves field visits, public interactions, registering of grievances, an inspection of public utilities, holding of awareness camps and other allied activities.
  • Special awareness was also conducted by the Nodal Officer, Trespone CDPO Tai SuruParveenAkhtar, on PradhanMantriShram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM) Pensions Scheme.
  • The scheme provides pension benefits to the unorganized workers who have to pay a monthly premium of 55 to 200 rupees depending on the age of the subscriber, falling between the age group of 18-40 years, after attaining 60 years.

UAE launches UN-developed anti-money laundering platform

  • The UAE Central Bank’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) announced that it has launched the new anti-money laundering platform, called (goAML).
  • Objective of goAML is to gather and analyse intelligence submitted by reporting entities, which is then analysed and disseminated to law enforcement authorities when deemed necessary.
  • The platform will act as an integral part of the FIU by elevating its IT structure, strengthening a country-wide cooperation against criminal activity.
  • The goAML platform, a fully integrated software solution, was specifically customised to commensurate with the requirements of the UAE’s anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing framework and key stakeholders
  • All financial institutions in the UAE must register on the new platform by June 27, 2019 to avoid penalties.

Bangladesh receives highest ever net FDI amounting to 3.61 bn dollars

  • Bangladesh received the highest ever net foreign direct investment (FDI) amounting to 3.61 billion dollars in 2018.
  • Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) announced that China was the biggest source for FDI inflows last year at 1.03 billion dollars, followed by the Netherlands and the UK.
  • Government of Bangladesh is working to improve its ranking in the ease of doing business index from the current level of 176 out of 190 to below 100 in the near future.

RBI launches Complaint Management System

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a Complaint Management System (CMS) on its website on June 24, 2019.
  • This RBI CMS has launched for lodging complaints against banks and NBFCs with a motto to improve customer experience in timely redressal of grievances.
  • The RBI is also planning to introduce an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to track the status of complaints.

NITI Aayog releases ‘Healthy States, Progressive India’ report

  • NITI Aayog released the second edition of “Healthy States, Progressive India”, ranking states and Union territories on their year-on-year incremental change in health outcomes, as well as, their overall performance.
  • Among the larger states, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra ranked on top in terms of overall performance.
  • Haryana, Rajasthan and Jharkhand are the top three ranking states in terms of annual incremental performance.
  • Haryana, Rajasthan and Jharkhand showed the maximum gains in improvement of health outcomes from base to reference year.
  • The report has been developed by NITI Aayog, with technical assistance from the World Bank, and in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

  • She has been appointed for a period of three years.
  • She will replace senior IAS officer AlokShekhar.
