- World Refugee Day is observed every year on 20th June across the world.
- The objective of this day is to raise awareness about the conditions and problems that refugee faces in their lives. This day provides an opportunity to show globally that we all are with refugees.
- The theme for World Refugee Day 2019 is #StepWithRefugees — Take A Step on World Refugee Day
- The theme of World Refugee Day 2018 was “Now More Than Ever, We Need to Stand with Refugees”.
- World refugee Day was declared by the United nations General Assembly in the Resolution 55/76 on 4th December, 2000.
- World Refugee Day was first celebrated on 20th June 2001 to mark the 50th anniversary of 1951 Convention Refugees status by the United Nations General Assembly.

Two-day international workshop on piracy related issues begins in Delhi
- A two-day International workshop on issues related with piracy and armed robbery began in New Delhi.
- The workshop is being organised by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in cooperation with the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP).
- ReCAAP – first regional Government-to-Government agreement to deal with piracy and armed robbery at sea in Asia.
- Presently, 20 countries are members of the ReCAAP.
- India has previously hosted this workshop in November 2011 in Goa and December 2017 in Delhi.
MP govt to provide Rs 5000 as minimum aid to calamity-hit farmers
- State Revenue and Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput announced that the Madhya Pradesh government will provide 5,000 rupees in minimum compensation to small and marginal farmers in the event of crop loss due to natural calamities.

DD India programmes to be available in Bangladesh, South Korea
- India has signed agreements with Bangladesh and South Korea for DD India, the state-owned English language current affairs channel, to be telecast on the state platforms of the respective countries.
- In return, BTV World, a channel owned by Bangladesh TV and KBS World, an English language 24×7 channel of the government of South Korea, will now be available on DD Free Dish.

India to host UN meets on land degradation in September
- For the very first time India will host the 14th session of the Conference of Parties (COP-14) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in September in Delhi.
- At least 5,000 delegates from nearly 197 countries will take part in this event.
- Union Environment Minister PrakashJavadekar launched a flagship project called the Bonn Challenge, to enhance India’s capacity for forest landscape restoration (FLR).
- The Bonn Challenge is a global effort to bring 150 million hectares of the world’s deforested and degraded land under restoration by 2020, and 350 million hectares by 2030.

Bangladesh has emerged as fastest growing economy among 45 countries of Asia-Pacific region: ADB
- According to Asian Development Bank (ADB), Bangladesh has emerged as the fastest growing economy among the 45 countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
- In the financial year 2018-19 Bangladesh attained growth rate of 7.9 % which is its fastest rate since 1974. The bank predicted that the growth will be 8% in the next financial year.

Facebook’s new cryptocurrency- Libra
- Facebook has announced a digital currency called Libra that will roll out for use in 2020 and allow the platform’s billions of users across the globe to make financial transactions online.

WHO offers a new tool for action against antimicrobial resistance
- WHO launches a new tool called “AWaRe” for safer use of antibiotics.
- It is an online tool aimed at guiding policy-makers and health workers to use antibiotics safely and more effectively.
- ‘AWaRe’, classifies antibiotics into three groups:
- Access — antibiotics used to treat the most common and serious infections.
- Watch — antibiotics available at all times in the healthcare system.
- Reserve — antibiotics to be used sparingly or preserved and used only as a last resort.
