- The Ministry of Railways on 24 November 2015 signed the
Assured Off Take Agreements (AOT) with SAIL-RITES Bengal Wagon Industry Pvt Ltd
(SRBWIPL) for manufacturing and rehabilitation of wagons at Kulti, West Bengal.

- With the signing of the agreement, two major PSUs namely
RITES of Ministry of Railways and SAIL of Union Ministry of Steel will form a
joint venture SRBWIPL. - The joint venture is a 2500 Crore rupees Make in India
Initiative. - This is a long term Agreement for manufacturing of 1200
wagons per annum and rehabilitation of 300 wagons per annum for a period of 10
years.

- The Ministry of Railways and TERI University on 23 November
2015 signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up Railway Chair on
Sustainable Mobility at the premises of TERI University. - The MoU was signed by Rajiv Seth, Vice Chancellor, TERI
University and Manoj Pandey, ED of Training and Man Power, Ministry of
Railways. The Chair would focus and promote research on issues of sustainable
mobility, use of energy efficient technology and green energy initiatives.

UN Launches Campaign
for Action on Violence Against Women

- India’s iconic India Gate and the Delhi Metro will join
hundreds of monuments across the world that will be illuminated as part of a UN
effort to galvanise support for global action to end violence against women and
girls. - India Gate will be illuminated in orange and messages of
ending violence against women will be displayed on panel boards in two
high-traffic lines of the Delhi Metro as part of the UN’s ‘Orange the World’
campaign that includes parades, soccer matches, school debates and the lighting
up of hundreds of iconic monuments. Violence against women and girls affects
one in three worldwide. - The call to action is part of the UN Secretary-General’s’
Unite to end violence against women’ campaign, led by UN Women, the UN’s agency
for gender equality. - The colour orange, which has come to symbolise a bright and
optimistic future free from violence against women and girls, will help unify
the large-scale social mobilisation. - It will be carried out during the civil society-driven ’16
Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’, which will run from today
commemorated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against
Women until Human Rights Day on December 10. - This year’s ‘Orange the World’ initiative will focus on the
theme of preventing violence against women and girls, in the specific context
of the adoption of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, which includes
targets on ending violence against women and girls.

the 2015 summit was Our People, Our Community, Our Vision. - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was the Chairperson
of the summit that was held from 18 November 2015 to 22 November 2015. - The Summit was attended by the leaders of the 10-member
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that are Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Lao PDR, Myanmar
and Cambodia.

Space Centre. - The launch was conducted by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in
collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. - This was first mission of Japan that carried a commercial
satellite as its primary payload and only the second to carry a large
commercial satellite.

Najib Razak and attended by the Heads of State/Government of ASEAN Member
States, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, Russia and the
United States of America.

- Anju Bobby George, the former long jump world champion, was
on 24 November 2015 appointed as the chairperson of the Target Olympic Podium
Scheme (TOPS). She will be assuming the charge in the first week of December
2015. - Her appointment was approved by the Union Ministry of Sports
and Youth Affairs. The post of the chairperson was lying vacant after the
resignation of Anurag Thakur, the BJP parliamentarian and Secretary, Board for
Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). - She is presently a member of the TOPS’ identification
committee, which also includes national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and
former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid.

football administrator TR Govindarajan died
football administrator TR Govindarajan died
- TR Govindarajan, one of the long-standing and distinguished
football administrators of Tamil Nadu, died on 24 November 2015 after a brief
illness. He was 90. - Govindarajan served Tamil Nadu Football Association in many
capacities as Secretary for 24 years, then as Vice-President, Assistant
Secretary and Treasurer. He retired as Office Superintendent in Southern
Railway.

economist TS Papola passed away
- Veteran Labour Economist Dr TS Papola passed away on 23
November 2015 in New Delhi following brief illness. He was 74. - Papola was specialised in labour and employment, industrial
economics, development planning, regional development and enterprise
development. He had served as an advisor with the erstwhile Planning Commission
of Union Government for eight years from 1987 to 1995. - He served as Chairman and Member of several State and
National level bodies including the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
