YES Bank plans to raise $1 billion by December through rights issue

  • YES Bank is looking at raising $1-1.2 billion by December through a fully underwritten rights issue to bank received interest from both global private equity players and Indian family offices.

  • It is learned that investor interest garnered by the bank is over $2 billion, which is nearly twice as much capital as what it plans to raise.

Dr Harsh Vardhan launches eDantseva website and mobile application

  • Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare launched the eDantseva website and mobile application the first ever national digital platform on oral health information and knowledge dissemination.
  • This marks an important milestone as e-DantSeva will reach out to more than one billion people with one click in the form of a dedicated website and mobile application.
  • The Union Health Minister also released the Braille booklet and Voice.

GoI launches eco-friendly crackers to fight air pollution

  • Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan has launched eco-friendly green firecrackers which have been manufactured in India.
  • Environment-friendly fireworks have been developed by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs and manufactured by licensee-manufacturers.
  • A green logo as well as a Quick Response (QR) coding system has been developed for differentiation of green crackers from conventional crackers.
  • The crackers have been launched in a bid to “resolve the crisis of air pollution”.

  • Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal urged the Centre to dedicate the IIM, Amritsar, to Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.
  • She urged Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal to name the Institute as Sri Guru Nanak Devji 550th Centenary IIM.

India’s first e-waste clinic to be set up in Bhopal

  • The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have joined hands to set up the country’s first e-waste clinic in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
  • This clinic would enable segregation, processing and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.
  • The electronic waste will be collected door-to-door or can be deposited directly at the clinic in exchange for a fee.

Goa government released Rs.60 crore for GMCH

  • The Goa government released Rs.60 crore for the super-specialty block being constructed at the Goa Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Bambolim, Goa.
  • The fund will be paid in 12 installments of Rs.12 crore each.
  • The Goa Medical College Hospital is being built the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
  • The 500-bed super-specialty facility is expected to be inaugurated by the end of 2019.

Pak PM Imran Khan to embark on a 3-day visit to China

  • The Free Trade Agreement signed between the two strategic cooperative partners to further enhance bilateral business and trade.
  • They will also examine the abolition of quota for all Pakistani agro products like rice, wheat, corn, soybean, sugar, and tobacco as Pakistan will prove to be a food basket for China.
  • It will be the third visit of Khan to China within a year.

NHA ties with Google to strengthen the implementation of PMJAY

  • National Health Authority signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with Google to collaborate and strengthen the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
  • The two organizations will now work together to increase process efficiencies in day-to-day applications.
  • Google will support NHA in improving digital presence of PMJAY and showcasing relevant content to the 50 crore entitled beneficiaries.

India and Bangladesh signed MoU to set up coastal surveillance

  • India and Bangladesh have signed an MOU to set up coastal surveillance system radar in Bangladesh on 5 October.
  • Delhi will enable the setting up the surveillance.
  • The countries have decided to further expand connectivity network corridors to boost Delhi’s Indo-Pacific strategy with Dhaka emerging as a key pillar in that vision.

  • NASA has planned to conduct an all-female spacewalk again.

  • The space agency announced that Christina Koch and Jessica Meir are scheduled to participate in the spacewalk together on 21 October.

  • The group commanding officer of the Squadron Captain Satish Pawar will receive the award.
  • Also, the 9 Squadron will receive the unit citation. 9 Squadron’s Mirage 2000 jets also dropped bombs on the JeM camp.
  • The 601 Signal Unit will also get a citation for defeating an approaching air strike by Pakistani jets on 27 February.

Indo-Mongolian Joint Exercise Nomadic Elephant 2019

  • 14th edition of Indo – Mongolian joint military training, Exercise Nomadic Elephant-XIV started.
  • The Mongolian Army is being represented by officers and troops of the elite 084 Air Borne Special Task Battalion, while the Indian Army is being represented by a contingent of a battalion of RAJPUTANA RIFLES.
  • Nomadic Elephant-XIV is aimed at training troops in counter-insurgency & counter-terrorism operations under United Nations mandate.
  • The Joint Exercise will enhance defence co-operation and military relations between the two nations.

American actress, singer, and model, Diahann Carroll passes away

  • US actress Diahann Carroll, who won Golden Globe and Tony awards and was nominated for an Oscar passed away.
  • She was also the first black woman to win the Tony Award for best actress for her role in the Broadway musical No Strings.
