The International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5 September

  • International Day of Charity observed as 5 September to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic and volunteer organizations for their own purposes on the local, national, regional and international level.
  • It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
  • September 5 was chosen in order to commemorate the death anniversary of Mother Teresa, who had always been engaged in charitable work.

Teacher’s day is celebrated on September 5

  • In India, teachers’ day is celebrated on September 5 every year since 1962, as it is the birth anniversary of the second President of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
  • Teachers’ Day is a celebration of teachers, mentors and guides.
  • Radhakrishnan, who served as the first Vice President of India (1952-1962) was one of India’s most distinguished twentieth-century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy. He believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country”.

RBL Bank launches cardless cash withdrawal facility through ATMs via MoBank app

  • RBL Bank has partnered with Empays Payment Systems to launch a cardless cash withdrawal facility from ATMs by leveraging the Instant Money Transfer (IMT) system.
  • Customers can use RBL Bank’s MoBank app for this IMT function and initiate cash withdrawal by either using his or her mobile number linked to the account or by following a few easy steps on the app.

RBI ceased the Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank to be act as a banking company

Government goes digital, stops printing of diaries, calendars and greeting cards

  • The Union Government on September 2, 2020 asked all ministries and departments to stop printing wall calendars, diaries, desktop calendars and greeting cards in their physical forms to encourage shift to digital platform.
  • The Ministry of Finance issued a statement saying that there will be no activity of printing of wall calendars, desktop calendars, diaries and other such materials for use by any ministry, department, public sector companies, state-run banks or other organs of the government in the coming year.

Government asks Major Ports to use locally built Tug Boats

  • The government has asked all major ports to procure or charter tug boats that are made in India to revive the Indian shipbuilding industry.
  • The proposal has been initiated by The Ministry of Shipping
  • Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called it as a step towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Shipping’ under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ drive.
  • The all procurement being done by major ports will now be carried out as per the revised ‘Make in India’ order
  • Move is aimed at promoting Indian shipbuilding industry and for “Make in India shipbuilding”.

CII to create a ‘National strategy for future business’ along with DPIIT

  • Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will create a ‘national strategy for future businesses’ together with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
  • The group will also provide policy inputs, identify new growth segments and establish international partnerships with a focus on growing such businesses.
  • CII also suggested that the government should invite other nations to participate. Senior business leaders were called upon to become mentors, not only to their own family or businesses but also to the new age & young entrepreneurs.

Russia commits to policy of no arms supply to Pakistan, reiterates support to Indian security interests

  • Russia assured that it will follow a policy of ‘no arms supply to Pakistan’ following a request from India during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s meeting with his Russian counterpart Gen. Sergey Shoigu.
  • India and Russia also agreed to increase the engagement of their defence industries and finalised a major deal, under which an AK203 assault rifles factory will be established at Amethi.
