National Medicinal Plants Board Founding Day

  • AYUSH State Minister Shri Shripad Yesso Naik hosted an electronic event organized by the National Medicinal Plants Committee on November 24, 2020, to celebrate its founding day.
  • On this occasion, the “NMPB 2020 Status Report” and “Ayur-veg” e-books were also released.
  • The main goal of NMPB is to encourage the cultivation and sustainable management of medicinal plants nationwide, and to reduce the pressure on the collection of forest wild habitats.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People: 29 November

  • The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is a UN-organized day held every year on November 29.
  • It is observed to mark the anniversary of resolution 181, wherein the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine on November 29, 1947.

Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare: 30 November

  • The United Nation recognised Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare is held every year on November 30 since 2005.
  • The day marks tribute to the victims of chemical warfare, as well as to reaffirm the commitment of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to the elimination of the threat of chemical weapons, thereby promoting the goals of peace, security, and multilateralism.

YES, Bank launches ‘SMS Pay’ on POS Terminals in Partnership with French company ‘Worldline’

  • Private lender YES Bank launched an ‘SMS Pay’ functionality on POS terminals, which would allow merchants to accept contactless and remote payments from their customers.
  • Yes, Bank has collaborated with French payment services company Worldline to launch the new facility.
  • SMS Pay will facilitate merchants to accept remote payments on their POS machines and enable their customers to transact safely without leaving the comfort of their homes.
  • Through SMS Pay, local merchants & department stores could request payments from their customers by entering their contact details in the POS terminal following which an SMS would be triggered to the customer’s mobile number instantly, with a payment URL link.
  • Customers can complete the payment through their domestic debit and credit cards.

BUSINESS & ECONOMY

UBS Projects India’s GDP at -10.5% for FY21; 10% for FY22

  • The UBS has projected India’s real GDP to contract 10.5% in FY21, in its Global Economics & Markets Outlook 2021-2022 report.
  • For the fiscal 2021-22 (FY22) UBS expect India’s real GDP growth to rebound to +10% YoY in FY22.
  • UBS also estimates India’s GDP to stabilise at 6.2 percent YoY in FY23.

Sahakar Pragya Programme

  • The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare recently launched the Sahakar Pragya.
  • The initiative will train the primary cooperative societies in the country.
  • It holds 45 new training modules of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
  • It will enhance the training capacity of NCDC through a network of eighteen regional training centres.

  • Under the Sahakar Pragya initiative, the 45 training modules are to be delivered at LINAC. LINAC is Laxman rao Inamdar National Academy for Cooperative Research and Development operating under NCDC.

National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) Review By Union Health Minister

  • Union Health Minister reviews implementation of the National Digital Health Mission and Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY.
  • The National Health Mission (NHM) was launched by the government of India in 2013.

  • The National Health Mission (NHM) was launched by the government of India in 2013 subsuming the National Rural Health Mission and National Urban Health Mission.
  • Objectives of the National Digital Health Mission:
  • Establishment of Digital Health Systems.

E-Lok Adalats were Organized in 15 states

  • E-Lok Adalats were organized in 15 states, handling more number of cases. From June to October, 27th E-Lok Adalats were organized in 27 states, handling more than 250,000 cases.

  • In November, this type of E-Lok Adalats was organized in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Telangana, handling a total of approximately 12,600 cases.

Cabinet Secretary Chaired the Meeting of National Crisis Management Committee

  • Union Cabinet Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba chaired the meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) today through a video with the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Meeting to review the situation of the upcoming cyclone.
  • They also informed the coordination with NDRF and other agencies to meet this challenge.
  • The NCMC was constituted under the Cabinet Secretariat for effective implementation of relief measures in the wake of a natural calamity.

PM to inaugurate six-lane widening project of the Varanasi-Prayagraj section of NH-19 on 30 November

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on 30 November 2020.
  • Programmes to be attended by PM during the visit includes:
  • Dedicate to the nation the six-lane widening project of the Handia (Prayagraj) – Rajatalab (Varanasi) section of National Highway 19.
  • Total outlay of this 73 Km stretches of the newly widened and six laned NH19 is Rs 2447 crore. It is expected to reduce the travel time between Prayagraj and Varanasi by one hour.
  • Attend world famous festival of Dev Deepawali
  • Dev Deepawali is celebrated on every Poornima of the Kartik month
  • 11 lakh diyas will be lighted on both sides of River Ganges.

Mission COVID Suraksha launched

  • The Government of India recently launched Mission COVID Suraksha to accelerate development of vaccine in the country.
  • It will ensure that the vaccines being developed are brought closer to the market.
  • The mission was introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on November 12, 2020 as a part of 12 announcements made under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan 3.0.
  • The Finance Minister had allocated Rs 2.65 lakh crores under the fourth economic package. Of this, Rs 900 crores has been allocated to Department of Biotechnology to accelerate development of COVID-19 vaccine.

China’s entry in Nuclear power sector

  • China recently connected its first indigenously developed third generation nuclear power reactor called Hualong one to its national grid.
  • The Hualong One nuclear power reactor is first of its kind.
  • According to the China National Nuclear Corporation, Unit 5 of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant located in Fujian province was connected to the grid for the first time.
  • Unit 5 is the first nuclear power reactor in the world to adopt Hualong One technology.

SUMMITS AND CONFERENCES

India to Chair 19th Summit of SCO Council of Heads of Government on 30 November 2020 virtually

  • India will host the 19th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government in virtual format on 30 November 2020.
  • It will be the first time that a Summit-level Meeting will be held under the Chairmanship of India, since it gained full -membership of the organization in 2017.
  • The Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu will be the chair of the Summit.
  • The Summit will end with the adoption of the Joint Communique.
  • Th SCO Summit is held annually at the level of Prime Ministers of SCO and deals primarily with the trade and economic agenda of the organization.

PM Modi Chairs 33rd PRAGATI Meet

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the 33rd PRAGATI meeting on 25 November 2020 to review multiple projects, grievances and programmes.
  • PRAGATI stands for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation.
  • The projects worth around Rs 1.41 lakh crore, related to ten states and union territories, were reviewed. They included Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
  • These projects were related to the Ministry of Railways, MORTH, DPIIT and Power Ministry.
  • PRAGATI is an ICT-based multi-purpose and multi-modal platform launched in 2015.
  • The platform is aimed at addressing common man’s grievances, and simultaneously monitoring and reviewing important programmes and projects of the Government of India as well as projects flagged by State Governments.
  • It is a three-tier system consisting of PMO, Union Government Secretaries, and Chief Secretaries of the States.

United States second biggest FDI source for India during first half of FY 2020-2021

  • As per the data made available by the commerce and industry ministry, the United States has emerged as the second-biggest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for India during April-September 2020.
  • It replaced Mauritius during the first half of the Financial Year 2020.
  • The data showed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, India had attracted FDI worth USD 7.12 billion from the United States and USD 2 billion from Mauritius, which slipped to 4th position during April-September 2020.

India-US extend MoU for Cooperation on Nuclear Energy

  • India and the United States have extended the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Energy agreement for another ten years.
  • The agreement is also called the 123 agreement.
  • India buys the nuclear material from United States based on this agreement.
  • The extension of the agreement was signed at the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP).

India-Vietnam Defence Ministers hold discussions

  • The Defence Ministers of India and Vietnam recently discussed the collaboration in the defence industry.
  • The discussions include training, capacity building and cooperation in United Nations Peace keeping operations.
  • The countries reaffirmed the strong India-Vietnam Defence cooperation during the discussion.
  • During the discussions, the countries reaffirmed their vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to enhance self-reliance.
  • India expressed its willingness to enhance the level of training of all the three services of Vietnam Defence Forces.

IRDAI approves ICICI Lombard acquisition of Bharti Axa General

  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has given its in-principle approval for the merger of Bharti AXA General Insurance with ICICI Lombard.
  • The merged entity will have a market share of around 8.7 per cent on a proforma basis in the general insurance business.

  • Both sides reviewed their preparations for the challenge of COVID-19 and expanded cooperation in the pharmaceutical and health sectors including traditional medicines.

Platinum Partner Awards Were Given For EPFO

  • Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) was awarded the UMANG App’s highest transaction platinum partner award by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
  • The Union Ministers of Electronics and Information Technology awarded the newly established UMANG Award to the partner departments of the centre and the state based on the average transaction of all services in the past six months.
  • The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) was awarded the Platinum Partner Award for registering more than 2.5 million transactions on the UMANG App.

  • Visakhapatnam Naval Shipyard completed the modification of the Maldives Coast Guard MNDF CGS Huravee.
  • The ship arrived in Visakhapatnam on February 22 for modification.

DRDO increases ICU beds in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID hospital at Delhi Cantt

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation- DRDO announced on November 29, 2020, that it has increased the number of ICU beds in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital at Delhi Cantt to 500.
  • The step has been taken on the advice of the central government because of the rising number of cases in Delhi.
