India Hands Over Rs. 2.41 Crore Worth School Building To Nepal

  • India handed over a new school building costing Rs. 2.41 crores to the Nepal government that would boost the learning environment of students from the marginalized sections in the Himalayan nation.
  • The new building of Kuleshwor Awas Secondary School in Kathmandu city was jointly inaugurated by Ajay Kumar, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India in Kathmandu, in the presence of several senior officials from the Nepal government.
  • Kuleshwor Awas Secondary School has 800 students and is run with community support. Around 50 per cent of the students in the school are girls and most of the students come from the marginalised section of the society.
  • The new school infrastructure is a three-storey structure comprising 20 class rooms, separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls on each floor, underground water tank and furniture.

Nitin Gadkari inaugurates 1,058 crores 22-km stretch of Delhi-Meerut Expressway

  • Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Delhi-Meerut Expressway phase-3, built at a cost of Rs 1,058 crores.
  • The 82-kilometer long Delhi-Meerut Expressway connects Delhi with Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh.
  • The third phase or package from Dasna in Ghaziabad to Hapur is over 22-km long, with a civil cost of Rs 1,058 crores.
  • This 6-lane section has 2 2 lane service roads on both side, and a 4.68-km long 6-lane elevated corridor at Pilkhuwa.

Deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar extended till Dec 31

  • The deadline to link permanent account number (PAN) with Aadhaar has been extended by three months till 31st of December.
  • Earlier, the deadline was September 30. This is the seventh time that the government has extended the deadline for individuals to link their PAN with Aadhaar.

  • Under this unique initiative, any person can deposit one kilogram plastic in the Municipality office and get a valuable sapling for free.
  • In line with “Swacchata hi Seva” campaign, this event aims at minimizing the usage of plastic bags throughout the district.

Nepal Rastra Bank issues commemorative coins on 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev

  • The Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Dr Chiranjibi Nepal & Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri have jointly released three coins (100, 1000 and 2500 Nepali rupees) bearing the Sikh symbol to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
  • A book titled “Sikh Heritage of Nepal” based on the Sikh heritage of Nepal was also launched in the program.
  • This book has been published by BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation in association with the Indian Embassy in Nepal.

Suresh Chitturi appointed International Egg Commission chief

  • Suresh Chitturi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of India’s leading poultry firm Srinivasa Farms, has been appointed as chairman of the International Egg Commission(IEC) for the next two years.
  • The appointment was made at the IEC Global Leadership Conference in Copenhagen in Denmark.
  • He will be the first chair from Asia in the history of the institution, as he assumes the role of the Chairman of IEC.

RBI appoints Jai Bhagwan Bhoria as new administrator for PMC Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) superseded the Board of crisis-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank Ltd. Mumbai
  • She is appointed Jai Bhagwan Bhoria as the administrator of the bank.
  • The RBI increased the amount of withdrawal allowed to the depositors from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000.
  • The directives of RBI shall remain in force for a period of six months.
  • The development comes at a time when the lender’s suspended MD reportedly admitted to the RBI that the bank’s actual exposure to the bankrupt HDIL is over Rs 6,500 crore four times the regulatory cap or a whopping 73% of its entire assets of Rs 8,880 crore.

INDO-KAZAKHSTAN Joint Military Exercise KAZIND 2019

  • Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2019 between India and Kazakhstan will be conducted at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  • The exercise will comprise of nearly 100 soldiers from both Indian and Kazakhstan Army who would be sharing their experience gained during conduct of various counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in the past.
  • Exercise KAZIND-2019 is the 4th edition of an annual event which is conducted alternatively in Kazakhstan and India.
  • The aim of this exercise is to conduct company level joint training with an emphasis on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.
  • The joint military exercise will enhance the level of defence cooperation further fostering bilateral relations between the two nations.

  • The documentary, aired by BBC Scotland earlier this year on the journey of former Rangers ace David Robertson at the helm of Real Kashmir FC, has been nominated in two categories.

K Siva Reddy to get Saraswati Samman Award

  • Telugu poet K Siva Reddy conferred the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2018 for his collection of poems titled Pakkaki Ottigilite.
  • The award instituted by the KK Birla Foundation, is given annually for an outstanding literary work written in any official Indian languages and published during the preceding 10 years.
  • The highest recognition in the field of Indian literature and carries a cash purse of Rs 15 lakh.
  • Reddy is counted among the most renowned modern poets in Telugu.
  • He has also taught English literature and produced 23 volumes of poetry.

Former Foreign Secretary KPS Menon (Junior) passes away

  • Former diplomat KPS Menon (junior) passed away.
  • He was a 1951 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
  • He had served as the Foreign Secretary of India from 1987 to 1989.
  • He served as an ambassador to various countries, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Japan and China.

Veteran actor Viju Khote passes away

  • Veteran actor Viju Khote, passed away in Mumbai today.
  • He was 78.
  • He had acted in more than 300 Hindi and Marathi films.
  • He gained fame for his character Kaliya in the blockbuster film Sholay.
