Apple buys Intel’s smartphone modem business
- Apple will acquire “the majority” of Intel’s smartphone modem business for $1 billion
- Around 2,200 Intel employees will join Apple, and Apple will acquire IP and equipment from Intel as well.
- The acquisition will allow the company to focus on developing other 5G technologies.
- The acquisition will also reduce Apple’s reliance on Qualcomm, the dominant supplier of smartphone modems.

Centre plans to set up Community Radio Centres at coastal places
- The Government is planning to set up Community Radio Centres at all coastal places.
- Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare disclosed this.
- Educational institutions are being encouraged to open community Radio Centres.
- Community Radio Centres opened by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras have become helpful to cater advisories on the weather.
- GST Council decides to reduce rates on Electrical Vehicles from 12% to 5%
- The GST Council has decided to reduce GST Rate on Electrical Vehicles from 12 percent to 5 percent.
- The Council also decided to reduce the rate on Electric Vehicle Chargers from 18 per cent to 5 per cent. The new rates will come into effect from the 1st of next month.
- The GST Council had approved the use of Aadhaar by businesses to register under GST and the imposition of a penalty of up to 10 per cent on entities not passing on benefits of GST rate cuts to consumers.

DoNER takes up 49 projects worth over Rs 1231 cr in North Eastern Region
- Ministry of Development of North East Region has taken up 49 projects worth over 1231 crore rupees in the North Eastern Region in the first month of 100 days action plan of the government.
- The projects are related to the construction of roads, bridges and improvement of Tourist spot connectivity in the several Northeastern States.
- 200 projects worth of 3000 crore rupees have been included in the 100 days action plan.
- a Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao district of Assam will also be set up at a cost 50 crore rupees.
- Another project for setting up of Bamboo Park in Itanagar, would be taken up by North Eastern Council.

- The WR Mahalaxmi General Stores Depot (GSD) has become the first in Indian Railways to portray a heritage gallery of the printing and allied machines used in the WR Printing Press since 1948.

- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched a revamped website of Tourism department – tourismodishatourism.gov.in
- This website would help the state make its mark on the world tourism map.
- This digital platform will empower lakhs of people operating in the tourism and hospitality sector and will open a huge window of opportunities.
- The government has opened an e-commerce platform for handlooms and handicrafts through the website for promoting state brands such as Boyanika and Utkalika on pilot basis. This will enable users to shop for authentic souvenirs from Odisha.
- An interactive map adorned with indigenous art forms of Odisha like Pattachitra allows the user to view multiple tourism destinations with 360 degree views and to have virtual tours

Chandigarh gets BCCI affiliation
- Chandigarh has received affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India, thus providing an opportunity for the city cricketers to play in BCCI tournament.
- After the affiliation, Chandigarh Cricket Association (Punjab) and Chandigarh Cricket Association (Haryana) to merge into the UTCA and form a unified body to represent Chandigarh.

North Korea successfully test fired two short range ballistic missiles
- North Korea successfully test-fired two short-range missiles from its eastern coastal city of Wonsan on 25 July.
- The missiles flew about 430 km and reached an altitude of 50 km.
- The ballistic missile is a short-range, of about 1,000 kilometres or less.

Ehsan Mani has been appointed as the head of ICCs influential Finance and Commercial Affairs committee
- Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman Ehsan Mani has been appointed as the head of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) influential Finance & Commercial Affairs committee (F&CA).
- The F&CA is one of the ICC’s most important committees, in relation to all financial and commercial matters.

High-level committee formed to strategies preparations for 2020, 2024 Olympics
- Under the Chairmanship of Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju a high-level 10-member Committee has been constituted.
- Objective: to coordinate and strategies the preparation for the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
- The aim of the committee for the Tokyo Games would be to provide all possible support to potential and qualified athletes.
- For the 2024 Paris Games, the committee would chart out a road-map for the preparation and then will continuously review and suggest course correction whenever required.
- Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju yesterday also received the Special Olympics Torch which came from Singapore. He received the Olympics Torch from the Chairman of the Special Olympics International Football Championship, Dr Amar Prasad Reddy in New Delhi.
Byju’s replaces Oppo as Team India’s official sponsor
- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Bengaluru-based education and learning app Byju’s, which is owned by Think and Learn Private Limited, has replaced Oppo India as the official Team India sponsor.
- The deal period will begin from 5 September, 2019 until 31 March, 2022.
- Byju’s will be taking over all associated sponsor rights of the current team sponsor Oppo Mobiles India Private Limited.

Defence Ministry organises online quiz competition on Kargil War
- Ministry of Defence has organised an online quiz competition on the Kargil War to create a patriotic feeling among youth and masses.
- The quiz competition has begun yesterday and it continue till 4th of next month.
- It is being conducted on MyGov.in platform in Hindi and English.
- The duration of the quiz will be of five minutes during which a maximum of 20 questions can be answered.
- there will be ten cash prizes out of which first prize will be of 25 thousand rupees, second will be of 15 thousand and third will be of 10 thousand rupees.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to visit Mozambique from July 28
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Mozambique from July 28th to further strengthen defence relations.
- During the three days visit, Mr Singh will hold talks with the President, Defence Minister, Foreign Minister and Interior Minister of Mozambique.
- Three MoUs and agreements will be signed in the fields of exclusive economic zone surveillance, sharing of white shipping information and hydrography.
- There will also be a ceremony of handing over two fast interceptor boats and 44 SUVs from India to Mozambique.

- Completion of 50 years of safe operation of Units 1&2 of Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS-1&2), which are currently the oldest reactors in operation in the world.
- Addition of a nuclear power capacity of 1000 MW by the completion of KKNPP- 2 at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu.

‘Care4U’: IIT Kharagpur students develop artificial intelligence app for elderly care
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has developed two interconnected android smartphone applications named ‘CARE4U’which will inform the caregiver when the elderly person falls down with the exact location.
- This android-based app will connect the caregiver to the elderly person.
- If there is a fall, it automatically calls the caregiver and emergency services along with the exact location of the elderly person.
- It can also detect emotions and whenever the elderly opens the app, the phone takes his picture and a mood index is calculated.
- CARE4U can also do a plethora of other day-to-day activities like make a call, send a text, book a cab and so on. The app also has a record of medical histories, allergies’ account, an SOS button, real time location tracking and so on. It has a ‘Medicine Reminder’ feature to remind both the elderly as well as the caregiver that it is time for the former to take medicine.

Telugu writer and lyricist Indraganti Srikanth Sharma passed away
- Indraganti Srikanth Sharma, father of director Mohan Krishna passed away at an age of 75.
- Srikanth Sharma began his career as a journalist in the regional newspaper, Andhra Jyothi, and later joined the All India Radio, Vijayawada in 1976.
