DCC imposes penalty of Rs.3050 crore on Airtel, Vodafone Idea on recommendations by TRAI

  • Digital Communications Commission (DCC) on recommendations by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) approved the penalty of Rs.3050 crore on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.
  • The penalty is given to those network operators for allegedly denying inter-connectivity to Reliance Jio in October 2016.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal reviews preparations of Indias Participation in Dubai World Expo 2020

  • Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways Shri Piyush Goyal reviewed the preparations.
  • Theme: The theme of the Expo is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” with three sub themes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – to generate sustainable solutions to global problems, demand and collaboration areas across cultures, countries and regions.
  • More than 25 million visitors are expected and 180 countries will be represented at the Expo.
  • World Expo 2020 which will take place for six months beginning 20th October 2020 up to 10th April 2021.
  • NBCC has bagged the Rs. 400 crore project to build the Pavilion at Dubai World Expo 2020.

Light urban rail Metrolite for smaller cities

  • The Centre has proposed light urban rail transit system – ‘Metrolite’
  • It is found in small cities and towns having lower projection of ridership.Each train having three coaches and a restricted speed of 25 kmph.
  • Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry issued standard specifications of the ‘Metrolite’ system .
  • The system will be developed on surface and elevated stretches.The ‘Metrolite’, can be developed at a lower cost in comparison with existing metro system, will also act as a feeder system to high capacity Metro.
  • The three-coach train will have the capacity of carrying 300 passengers

PM Modi participates in tree plantation drive in Parliament complex

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a tree plantation drive organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in Parliament complex today.
  • The Prime Minister was joined by other dignitaries including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah in the plantation of saplings.

Indias first Dragon blood-oozing Tree discovered in Assam

  • Researcher discovers Dracaena Cambodia a dragon tree species in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district.
  • Dracaena cambodiana is the only true dragon tree species. It is an important medicinal plant as well as an ornamental tree.It is a major source of dragon’s blood, a precious traditional medicine in China.

UP becomes No. 1 in implementation of Pradhanamntri Suraksha Beema Yojna

  • As per the statement released by state government 1.95 crores people have been given insurance cover under the scheme till 31 march 2019.

Arunachal  Pradesh CM launches statewide tree plantation programme

  • Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the statewide tree plantation programme ‘Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019’ in Itanagar.
  • The campaign under the State Forest department will plant 1-lakh tree saplings in the next 24 hours.
  • The campaign is being held as part of Van Mahotsav celebration and has set the target of planting 1 Crore tree within the next five years.

China launches first private rocket capable of carrying satellites

  • Beijing-based ‘Interstellar Glory Space Technology’ also known as iSpace launched THE China’s first commercial rocket.
  • The 20-metre (66-foot) rocket designed by iSpace named Hyperbola-1 reached an altitude of 300 kilometres (186 miles).

Pakistan to send its first man to space in 2022

  • Pakistan announced that it will send its first astronaut to space in 2022 using close ally China’s satellite launching facilities.

RIL became the top Indian company in the latest Fortune Global 500 list

  • Reliance Industries (RIL) has topped the Indian company to feature in the latest Fortune Global 500 list.
  • RIL has moved 42 positions from its previous and has secured 106th ranking.
  • Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has secured 117th rank.
  • The profit of RIL has been increased from $62.3 billion to $82.3 billion in 2019. IOC has recorded a 17.7% growth in revenue from $65.9 billion to $77.6.

  • ONGC that ranked 160, State Bank of India that ranked 236, Tata Motors that ranked 265, Bharat Petroleum which ranked 275 and Rajesh Exports that ranked 495.

  • Congress party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
  • He succeeded Mallikarjun Kharge
  • Chowdhury along with former Union Ministers Satyapal Singh and Jayant Sinha elected as the members of PAC.
