Border Security Force (BSF) Celebrates its 56th Raising Day on December 1, 2020

  • The Border Security Force (BSF), is observing its 56th Raising Day on 01 December 2020.
  • BSF was formed on December 1, 1965 as a unified central agency, after the Indo-Pak and India-China wars, for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with.
  • It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India and stands as the world’s largest border guarding force.
  • BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.

World AIDS Day observed on 01 December

  • The World AIDS Day is observed across the globe on 1 December every year since 1988 to raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection

Arjun Munda to launch 10-day-long Áadi Mahotsav’ on 1st Dec

  • The 10-day-long Áadi Mahotsav’, a festival of tribes will be launched today by Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda in a virtual format.
  • the TRIFED has decided to organise its annual event Aadi Mahotsav-2020 in an online mode.
  • At the festival, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh, Minister for Tribal Development, Madhya Pradesh Meena Singh and TRIFED chairman Ramesh Chand Meena would be the guests of honour for this online inauguration.
  • The Aadi Mahotsav is a unique celebration of the spirit of tribal culture, crafts, cuisine and commerce.
  • It commenced in 2017.
  • The festival is an attempt to familiarize the people with the rich and diverse craft and culture of the tribal communities across the country, in one place.

Piyush Goyal inaugurates newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section of North Western Railway

  • The Union Minister of Railways Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section of North Western Railway (NWR) in the state of Rajasthan on 29 November 2020.
  • The Minister also flagged off first train on this newly electrified route.
  • The Dhigawara-Bandikui section is on Delhi-Ajmer route via Jaipur.
  • The Railways has set the target to electrify the entire percentage of railway lines across the country in phased manner.
  • Once these electrified trains start running, the trains that run on diesel will be stopped.
  • This will eliminate pollution and also, the dependence on the fuel imported from outside.
  • The electrified trains will run from the electricity produced in India, which is expected to save significant revenue.
  • Piyush Goyal is in charge of the Ministry of Railways, Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar Launches Sahakar Pragya initiative with 45 new training modules for cooperative sector

  • The Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, recently unveiled a new initiative called Sahakar Pragya.
  • Sahakar Pragya is an initiative of National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), to help in capacity development of cooperative sector in India, through training programme.
  • Under this initiative, 45 new training modules have been developed for the farmers and would be imparted to primary cooperative societies in rural areas of the country by NCDC.
  • Narendra Singh Tomar is the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj and Food Processing Industries.

  • Nagaland celebrates its 58th Statehood day today on 1st
  • It became the 16th State of the Union of India on 1st December 1,963.
  • The formal inauguration of the state was done by the then President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.

‘Learning Management System’ for Government colleges launched by Karnataka CM

  • Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa launched a Learning Management System based on Digital technology for Government colleges.
  • The Learning Management System, LMS will be implemented in 430 Government First Grade Colleges, 87 Polytechnics and 14 Government Engineering Colleges during this academic year.

Gujarat’s PPP project in Leopard rescue and rehabilitation

  • The Gujarat forest department has transferred 12 leopards to a private rescue and Rehabilitation centre in Jamnagar.
  • These leopards were captured from the wild after they encountered conflicts with humans. The project is first of its kind in the state.
  • Project is implemented under public private partnership between the Reliance Industries Limited and the state government.
  • The Leopards have been transferred from the Sakkar Baug Zoological Park in Junagadh to the Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation kingdom located in Jamnagar.

Assam govt launched Orundoi Scheme

  • The scheme is to be launched by the Assam government in 29 districts across the state. Through this scheme, the government seeks to empower women by transferring a minimum amount of Rs.830 each month directly to the bank accounts of the nominated female head of the household.
  • More than 18 lakh beneficiaries have already been selected by the government under this scheme.
  • This number is expected to reach 22 lakh after the inclusion of districts in the Bodoland Territorial Area.
  • The scheme was announced during the state budget 2020-21. It is to be implemented at an annual budget of 2400 crores of Rupees.
  • According to the state government of Assam the scheme will suffice the basic requirement of Health and nutrition of a household.
  • It will support the family to buy by 4 kg of pulses worth 200 rupees, medicines worth 400 rupees per month, sugar for 80 Rupees and fruits and vegetables for 150 Rupees.

New Military Deal between China and Pakistan

  • General Wei Genghe of the People’s Liberation Army visited the Pakistani army headquarters located at Rawalpindi.
  • During the meet the countries discussed matters of regional security, mutual interest and enhance bilateral defence collaboration.
  • They also discussed about the China Pakistan Economic Corridor in which the Pakistani army has a greater role.
  • The Countries signed a new Memorandum of Understanding related to Defence.
  • The agreement mainly focused on capacity building of the Pakistani army and is a continuation of a defence agreement signed in 2019.

Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 22,000 international runs

  • Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli scripted another record in the game.
  • He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record and became the quickest batsman to complete 22,000 runs.
  • He reached the milestone in his 462nd innings. Tendulkar batted 493 times to reach that mark.
  • They are followed by Brian Lara (511 innings) and Ricky Ponting (514 innings) on the list. The only batsman with an average of over 50 across all formats, Kohli has 7240 runs in Tests, 12834 runs in ODIs and 2794 runs in T20Is.

Lahore is world’s most polluted city, followed by New Delhi: US Air Quality Index

  • Lahore, the cultural capital Pakistan, has been ranked as the world’s most polluted city, according to air pollution data released by the US Air Quality Index (AQI) on 30 November 2020.
  • Lahore reported a particulate matter (PM) rating of 423.
  • New Delhi stood second with a PM of 229, while Nepal’s capital Kathmandu ranked the third with a PM of 178.

Centre constitutes Apex Committee for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (AIPA) headed by Environment Secretary

  • The Central Government has set up an Apex Committee for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (AIPA) for achieving its goals under the global deal.
  • The 17-member Committee comprise of members from 13 key ministries of the Union Government.
  • The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) secretary R P Gupta will be the head of this committee and the additional secretary, MoEFCC, Ravi Shankar Prasad will be the vice chairperson.
  • The Environment ministry has enlisted as many as 16 functions for the APIA.

Apex Committee for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement

  • The Apex Committee for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (AIPA) was recently constituted by the Indian government.
  • Objective: to ensure coordinated response to climate change matters and to keep the country on track towards meeting its climate change obligations under the Paris Agreement, which includes Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
  • It will act as the national authority for regulating carbon markets within the country.
  • The committee was formed under the chairmanship of Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change secretary.
  • The main purpose of forming the committee is to ensure a coordinated response on climate change matters protecting the interests of India.
  • The committee will make sure India is on the right track in achieving climate change obligations under the Paris agreement.
  • The committee has 17 members, responsible for formulating policies to implement the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

Senior IAS Officer Utpal Kumar Singh Appointed as Secretary-General of Lok Sabha

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appointed senior IAS officer Utpal Kumar Singh as Secretary General of the Lok Sabha and Lok Sabha Secretariat.
  • His appointment will come into effect from December 1, 2020. He will succeed incumbent Snehlata Shrivastava.
  • Mr Singh is a 1986 batch IAS officer of Uttrakhand Cadre, and has been appointed as Secretary General of the Lok Sabha in the rank and status of Cabinet Secretary.

Lewis Hamilton wins Bahrain Grand Prix 2020

  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) has won the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix , held on 29 November 2020.
  • The race was the fifteenth round of the 2020 Formula One World Championship.
  • This is the 11th victory for Hamilton of the season, and 95th F1 win of his career. Also, Hamilton now holds the records for the most wins (95), in Formula One history.
  • Red Bull Racing teammates Max Verstappen (Netherlands) and Alexander Albon (Thailand) were second and third respectively.

Senegal World Cup footballer Papa Bouba Diop passes away at 42

  • Senegal’s professional footballer, Papa Bouba Diop, who helped the country win FIFA World Cup match in 2002, has passed away following a long illness. He was of the age of 42.
  • His goal helped Senegal secure historic 1–0 win over the then-world champions France in the opening match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and Senegal’s first ever match at the FIFA World Cup.
  • Diop has won 63 caps for Senegal.
