ICRA Predicts India’s GDP to Contract 9.5% in FY21
- Credit Rating agency ICRA has sharply revised the GDP forecast for India and expects the Indian economy to contract by 9.5% (-9.5%) in 2020-21.
- Earlier it had projected the GDP at -5% for FY21.
- The increasing Covid-19 infections, leading to localised lockdowns in some states and cities, affecting the economic activities is the main reason for this sharp revision.
- Icra’s projection is the sharpest contraction in the gross domestic product (GDP) for FY21 among all estimations so far.

Indian Railways first cable-stayed bridge ‘Anji Khad Bridge’ being set up in Jammu & Kashmir
- India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge ‘Anji Khad bridge ‘is being constructed by the Indian Railways’ in Jammu & Kashmir to connect Katra and Reasi Section of Jammu–Baramulla line.
Highlights:
- The Rs. 458 crore railway bridge is being developed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, a Government of India undertaking.
- The total length of the Anji Khad Bridge is 473.25 metres, standing at a height of 331 metres above the Chenab river bed.
- The project is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project of the Indian Railways’.
- The USBRL project also involves the construction of Chenab river bridge, a steel and concrete arch bridge. Once completed, the Chenab bridge will become the world’s highest rail bridge.

Govt launches implementation guidelines for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund
- Government launched the implementation guidelines for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund, AHIDF worth 15 thousand crore rupees.
- The fund was approved by the Union Cabinet last month under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan stimulus package for ensuring growth in several sectors.
Highlights:
- Government has been implementing several schemes for incentivizing the investment made by dairy cooperative sector for development of dairy infrastructure.
- Dairy cooperative sector for development of dairy infrastructure. The AHIDF has been set up as MSMEs and Private companies also need to be promoted and incentivized for their involvement in processing and value addition infrastructure.
- The Dairy Processing Infrastructure Development Fund is being implemented for infrastructure development in cooperative sector and AHIDF is a first type of scheme for private sector.
- The eligible beneficiaries under the Scheme will be Farmer Producer Organizations, MSMEs, Private Companies and individual entrepreneurs with minimum 10 per cent margin money contribution by them.

HRD Minister launches NISHTHA programme for 1200 key resources persons of Andhra Pradesh

Highlights of the Programe
- NISHTHA is a national initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement at the elementary stage under Samagra Shiksha -a flagship programme of the Ministry to improve learning outcomes.
- The Minister added that NISHTHA in face-to-face mode was launched on 21st August last year.
- 33 states and Union Territories have launched this programme in collaboration under Samagra Shiksha.
- In 29 States and UTs, the NISHTHA training programme has been completed by the NCERT at the state level.
- NISHTHA has been customized for online mode to be conducted through DIKSHA and NISHTHA portals by the NCERT.

- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on July 15 inaugurated the first plasma bank for the treatment of serious COVID-19 patients at SCB Medical College.
- During the inauguration, Odisha CM announced that Plasma Therapy will be free of cost for the people of Odisha.
- As SCB Medical College will be the nodal agency for Plasma Therapy, the KIIMS Hospital and SUM Hospital in Bhubaneshwar and Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack will provide the Plasma Therapy treatment to the COVID-19 patients.

- The overall ranking has been topped by China, which was the main source of growth in worldwide IP filings in 2018.
- China was followed by United States, Germany, Japan, and Republic of Korea as the top five nations in the list.
- The report released by Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization analyzes IP activity around the globe.
- The 2019 report presents data for 49 countries based on their 2018 filing, registration and renewals statistics, collected from national and regional IP offices and WIPO.
- The Intellectual Property (IP) considered for ranking countries covers patents, utility models, trademarks, industrial designs, microorganisms, plant variety protection and geographical indications.

- One of India’s best-known ceramic and pottery artists, Jyotsna Bhatt has passed away after suffering a stroke. She was 80.
- The Baroda-based artist has been associated with ceramic work for over five decades and her works are in prominent collections all over the world.
- Apart from ceramics, she also experimented with stoneware and terracotta. In her ceramics, she preferred matte and satin matte glazes as well as teal blue to moss green and other earth tones.
