SBI removes minimum balance charges from all savings bank accounts

  • The State Bank of India has waived off the minimum balance charges on all savings bank accounts.
  • SBI has waive charges for non-maintenance of Average Monthly Balance (AMB) for all 44.51 crore savings bank accounts.
  • Earlier, SBI was levying a penalty of Rs 5 to Rs 15 along with taxes on non-maintenance of average monthly balance of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 in metro, semi urban and rural areas respectively.
  • Along with the charges for non-maintenance of Average Monthly Balance, the public sector bank has also waived of SMS charges.

SBI to invest Rs 7,250 cr in crisis-hit YES Bank as part of RBI rescue plan

  • SBI will infuse Rs 7,250 crore into ailing YES Bank to pick up to 49 per cent equity as part of the Reserve Bank of India-mandated bailout plan.

Highlights:

  • SBI will pick 7,250 million shares at Rs 10 each, and its shareholding will remain within 49 per cent of the paid-up capital of the private sector lender.
  • SBI cannot reduce its holding below 26 per cent for the next three years.
  • Under the restructuring scheme, the authorised capital shall stand altered to Rs 5,000 crore.
  • The number of equity shares will stand altered to 24,000 million of Rs 2 each aggregating to Rs 4,800 crore.

NOTE: SBI will hold 45.74% and LIC 9.81%. Private lenders including HDFC and ICICI Bank will hold 6.31% each while Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank will hold 3.15% each.

  • ICICI Bank approves an investment of Rs1,000 crore to revive capital-starved Yes Bank.
  • ICICI Bank board approves to acquire 100 crore equity shares in Yes Bank at Rs10 per share.
  • This investment is likely to result in ICICI Bank Limited holding in excess of 5% shareholding in Yes Bank Ltd.
  • SBI will invest up to 49% of equity in Yes Bank. Other investors also being invited for the bank’s reconstruction plan.

Axis Bank will invest Rs600 cr in the private lender

  • Axis Bank announced investment of Rs600 crore at Rs10 per share.

India Post launched free digital parcel locker service

  • The Department of Posts has introduced a free digital parcel locker service in the city from 11 March for the first time in India.
  • The Chief Post Master General, West Bengal Circle, Gautam Bhattacharya, inaugurated the service from the Nabadiganta IT Post Office.

Free digital parcel locker:

  • Free digital parcel locker facility will be available in two post offices in Kolkata, one in the Nabadiganta IT Post Office in Sector 5 of Salt Lake City and two another in New Town.
  • The locker will enable customers to collect their consignment from specified post offices at their convenience.
  • The facility is popular in European countries. It will be limited to consignments received through registered post or speed post.
  • This facility will be given for the working people who cannot receive parcels because they have no one at home to receive consignments during office hours
  • Specific locker number will be given to a customer, where India Post will drop the parcel. The consignments will be dropped into the digital parcel locker, and an SMS will be issued along with an OTP number to the customer concerned.
  • The consignment will remain accessible to customers for seven days during which they can collect the parcel at any time of the day.

  • Indian MarTech Company, AdGlobal360 has been acquired by Japanese company Hakuhodo Inc for an undisclosed sum.
  • Adglobal360 is India’s fastest growing MarTech Company headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana.

DA (dearness allowance) of government employees hiked by 4%

  • The government today hiked the dearness allowance (DA) by 4%.
  • It means the dearness allowance has been increased from 17% of basic pay/pension to 21% of basic pay/pension for central government employees and pensioners.
  • The decision was approved in a cabinet meet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The hike would be effective from January 1.
  • The cost to the exchequer will be Rs14,500 crore.
  • The move will benefit at least 50 lakh government employees and 65 lakh pensioners

  • Ministry of road transport is to prepare draft norms after a panel of ophthalmologists from AIIMS gave its recommendations on this issue.

  • The AIIMS panel stated that the European Union had dropped the provision of colour blindness to obtain a driving licence while in the US, licences are not issued to such persons for driving commercial vehicles.

  • According to the pact, SpiceJet will set up warehousing, distribution and trading facility in the aerospace and industrial park of GHASL.
  • “Ready-to-Use” industrial infrastructure is offered by the park with the flexibility of choosing land within SEZ for business purposes.

“Technology Innovation Hub” to be established at IIT Mandi

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi will establish a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).
  • The Technology Innovation Hub will be established with the help of Rs 7.25 crore sanctioned by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to IIT Mandi.
  • Through Technology Innovation Hub, human-computer interaction (HCI) research programmes will take place in IIT Mandi with focus on design and development of computer technology (interfaces).
  • It will also include the study of interaction between humans (users) and computers.
  • The TIH will also focus on human resource & skill development, entrepreneurship and collaboration with other leading institutions.
