ADB, Education Above All Foundation agree to work together for quality Primary Education for out-of-school children

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Qatar-based Education Above All (EAA) Foundation have signed an agreement to carry out $100 million in joint projects to put out-of-school and at-risk children into quality primary education.
  • The two organizations will implement projects in up to 10 countries to ensure that at least 320,000 out-of-school children, including refugees and internally displaced children, realize their right to a quality primary education.
  • The 10 countries initially selected for projects are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and Sri Lanka.

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Central Armed Police Forces-CAPFs nationwide tree plantation drive.
  • Under this drive, saplings were planted by the jawans of Central Armed Police Forces in Chhattisgarh.
  • The personnel of BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF – deployed in Chhattisgarh for Anti-Naxal operations, planted saplings in their respective campuses as well as in their places of deployment.
  • By planting saplings, paramilitary forces are also playing their role in preserving and promoting the environment as well as to check the pollution and save the Earth.
  • All the CAPFs will undertake a drive in their respective organisations to achieve the collective target of planting more than 1.35 crore saplings by this month.

Chhattisgarh Government organises India’s first e-Lok Adalat

  • Chhattisgarh government has organised the first e-Lok Adalat of India amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual hearings were conducted through video conferencing under the e-Lok Adalat along with its live streaming.
  • The “e-Lok Adalat” was organized by the High Court and Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority and was inaugurated by P R Ramchandra Menon, the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court.
  • The “e-Lok Adalat” were organized in order to bring relief to people and to reduce the pendency of cases amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • During the “e-Lok Adalat”, over 3,000 cases were heard in around 200 benches of 23 districts across the state.

MP govt to run ‘Roko -Toko’ campaign for those who do not wear masks

  • MP government will now run a Roko -Toko (रोको टोको) means stop and campaign for those who do not wear masks.
  • As the Use of masks is mandatory in all public places in the state.
  • Now selected voluntary organizations will provide masks to the people who do not wear masks in public places and will charge an amount of Rs 20 per mask from the concerned.
  • The collector will select voluntary organizations in the district for this work.
  • The number of persons available ,credibility and efficiency of the organization will be taken into consideration while making the selection.
  • Collectors will make available suitable places to these organizations for the distribution of masks.
  • The selected organizations will be provided 100 masks created under ‘Jeevan Shakti Yojana’ on credit.

Nagaland govt bans import and sale of dog meat in the State

  • The Nagaland government has banned the import and sale of dog meat in the State.
  • Commercial import and trading of dogs and dog markets, and commercial sale of dog meat in markets and dine in restaurants will be banned in the state.
  • Any person found violating the order shall be liable to be punished under Section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

J&K: ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme inaugurated in Anantnag

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Anantnag KK Sidha inaugurated “One Nation One Ration Card” at Food Civil Supplies & Consumer and Public Distribution (FCS & CAPD) sale outlet at Nai Basti in Anantnag
  • The move is aimed at providing ration to the card holders at any place of the country. On the occasion, some migrant labourers of Uttar Pradesh were provided one month ration from the said sale outlet who has already been Aadhaar linked.
  • As per the scheme of the central government, the registered card holder is entitled to get ration for his family or for the persons residing at any place.

Odisha’s Swabhiman Anchal gets First-Ever Bus Service

  • The first-ever Bus Service in history was started on 10th July 2020 for the people of Swabhiman Anchal (located in Malkangiri district of Odisha).
  • The Bus Service was flagged off by MLA of the Chitrakonda Vidhan Sabha constituency.
  • The bus will be operated by Odisha Government’s-Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).
  • At 9 am from Malkangiri (District Headquarter) the bus will leave for Jodamba (in Swabhiman Anchal) every day, the return bus will leave Jodamba at 6 pm every day.
  • The distance between Malkangiri and Jodamba is 190 Km.

India’s 2018 Tiger census sets new Guinness World Record for being largest camera trap wildlife survey

  • The fourth cycle of the All India Tiger Estimation 2018 has entered the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest camera trap wildlife survey.
  • The country now has an estimated 2967 tigers as per the latest census.
  • With this number, India is home to nearly 75 percent of the global tiger population and has already fulfilled its resolve of doubling tiger numbers, made at St. Petersburg in 2010, well ahead of the target year of 2022.
  • Camera traps were placed in 26,838 locations across 141 different sites and surveyed an effective area of 1 lakh 21 thousand 337 square kilometres.
  • From the photographs, 2,461 individual tigers were identified using stripe-pattern-recognition software.

Jharkhand Govt signs MoU with HDFC to Offer Digital Payment Solutions to its Traffic Dept

  • Jharkhand government signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with HDFC Bank to provide digital payment solutions to the state’s transport department.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of Transport Secretary K Ravi and the bank’s Circle Head, Abhishek Kumar.
  • The Digital solution solution will enable the traffic police to equip themselves with Point of Sale (POS) machines to collect traffic- related penalties.
  • The traffic rules violators can also use this online payment facility to pay a fine.

WHO sets up independent panel to review its handling of COVID-19 pandemic

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has set up an independent panel to review its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the response by governments.
  • The panel will be co-chaired by former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
  • The co-chairs will select the other members.
  • The decision to form the panel has been taken by WHO following strong criticism by US President Donald Trump, which accused the WHO of being China-centric.

  • These Apaches were deployed at the Leh air base amid stand-off with China in Ladakh.
  • AH-64E Apache is equipped with the latest communications, navigation, sensor and weapon systems.

  • Veteran Gujarati journalist, columnist, writer and political analyst Nagindas Sanghvi passed away in Surat yesterday.
  • He was 100 and suffering from acute asthma.
  • Sangvi was conferred Padma Shri award in the year 2019. He was in teaching at Bhavan’s College Andheri from 1951 to 1980.
  • Later he moved to Ruparel College, Mahim and Mithibai College, Vile Parle for teaching political science. He had written many books on Mahatma Gandhi, Gujarat and other subjects.

TV Actor Rajan Sehgal, who also starred in Sarabjit, passes away of multiple organ failure at 36

  • Renowned Punjabi and Hindi film and television actor Ranjan Sehgal, who acted in the film Sarbjit, has passed away due to multiple organ failure. He was 36.
  • He had also worked in television shows such as ‘Savdhan India’ and ‘Crime Patrol’.

  • One of the most senior and popular cartoonist of Gujarat, Avad Bin Hassan Jami, has passed away in Jamnagar. He was 77.
  • He was popularly known as “Jami”.
  • His cartoons were regularly published in leading Gujarati daily newspapers and news magazines for more than two decades.
  • Jami was a drawing teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jamnagar and became a full time cartoonist after retirement.

‘Itolizumab’ Injection gets DCGI Approval for Treatment of Moderate to Serve ARDS Patients

  • The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has given its approval to ‘Itolizumab’ injection for the treatment of COVID-19 patients with restricted emergency use only in case of moderate to severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) patients.
  • DCGI has made it clear that written informed consent of the patient will be required by the authorities before administrating the Itolizumab injection.
  • The approval by the DCGI was given after satisfactory outcomes during the clinical trials conducted by the Expert Committee from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on COVID-19 patients.

  • Itolizumab is an anti-CD6 monoclonal antibody injection that is being used in India for the treatment of Psoriasis.
  • Bengaluru based biopharmaceutical company- Biocon Limited is the developer and the manufactures of the Itolizumab injection.

Russia’s Gamalei Institute’s COVID-19 Vaccine becomes the First in the World to Complete Human Clinical Trials

  • The COVID-19 vaccine developed by Russia’s Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology has successfully completed the Human Clinical Trials.
  • The trials on volunteers were conducted from 18th June 2020 at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.
  • At Sechenov University, the Director of Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology has informed that the First Group of Volunteers will be released on 15th July 2020 while the Second Group of Volunteers will be released next Monday (20th July 2020).
