  • As the global supply chain is mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, this also has created a challenge for developed economies to re-position themselves and brought an opportunity for developing economies to position themselves in the Global Manufacturing Hub.

8.8 Crore People have availed Healthcare Services under Ayushman Bharat Yojana in last 5 Months

  • At the Health and Wellness Centres across the country under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, in between 1st February 2020 to 30th June 2020, about 8.8 crore Indian Citizens have availed healthcare services.
  • The Health and Wellness Centres functioning across the country at the time of the COVID-19 Lockdown have organized 6.53 lakh sessions of Yoga and Wellness

Highlights from All India Data Available (from 1st February 2020 to 30th June 2020) Out of the 8.8 crore people:

  • 41 crore people were detected with Hypertension
  • 34 crore were detected with oral, breast or cervical cancer
  • 12 crore were detected with diabetes
  • In June 2020: 5.62 lakh patients have been dispensed with medicines of hypertension while 3.77 lakh medicines for patients with diabetes through the Health and Wellness Centres.
  • The total number of Health and Wellness Centres providing treating under Ayushman Bharat Yojana as of 1st July 2020 was 41,790.

Rajasthan launches campaign”Pure for Sure” to ensure purity of milk & dairy products

  • The Rajasthan state government has launched a week-long campaign”Pure for Sure” to ensure purity of milk and its products.
  • The campaign will run from July 8-July 14, 2020.
  • Under the campaign samples of milk and dairy products will be collected for testing at Food Testing Laboratory available at the divisional level.
  • Information related to samples will be provided by the food safety officers on the FSSAI app on daily basis.

India moves up a rank to become second-largest source of FDI for UK

  • According to new UK government figures, India invested in 120 projects and created 5,429 new jobs in the UK to become the second-largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) after the US in 2019.
  • The Department for International Trade (DIT) inward investment statistics for 2019-2020 found India moving up from its previous third-largest spot, representing an overall 4 per cent FDI increase for the UK on 2018-2019 with 1,852 new inward investment projects in the 2019/2020 financial year.
  • The US remains the number one source of FDI for the UK, delivering 462 projects and 20,131 jobs, followed by India, Germany, France and China and Hong Kong. Australia and New Zealand were responsible for 72 projects and the Nordic and Baltic region 134, an increase for both regions.

IRDAI forms panel for creation of ‘Indian Pandemic Risk Pool

  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has formed a working group to study and make recommendations on formation of an “Indian Pandemic Risk Pool”.

Role of the Panel

  • The panel has been tasked to examine the possibility of addressing the different risks which have arised out of a COVID-19 pandemic with the help of a “Pandemic Risk Pool”.
  • These risks include Business Interruption losses without concurrent Material damage loss, loss of employment would result in huge losses much beyond the capacity of Government /Insurers /Reinsurers.

  • Elton John became the second artist to be honored by Britain’s Royal Mint with a commemorative coin paying tribute to the decorated British singer-songwriter.

  • The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col awarded the annual environment awards of UNIFIL to 7 mission entities.

Asia Cup Cricket tournament 2020 postponed till June 2021

  • The 2020 edition of the Asia Cup Cricket tournament has been postponed till June 2021 by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) due to ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases in the region.
  • The tournament was earlier scheduled to be held in September 2020.
  • Originally Pakistan was to host the Asia Cup 2020, but due to security reasons amid coronavirus pandemic, the tournament was later rescheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, since it is the least affected country in the region.
  • Now Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup in 2021 while Pakistan have been awarded the hosting rights in 2022.
