Job Profile of BANK Probationary Officer (PO)

So, what does a Bank PO does in Job?


A PO(Probationary officer/Assistant Manager) in a Bank is the lowest position in the Officer’s cadre. He/She has to do all the work starting from Customer dealing to back office job. A PO has to verify the work has been done by a SWO/Clerk such as Cheque passing, This is an Original Content from Exampundit NEFT/RTGS Verification, Issuing a Cheque Book and many others. From Day begin to Day end, a PO has to take all the reports and also report them to account offices. 

He/She is fully responsible for much of the work that is being done in a Bank. In case of a small branch, a PO is required to perform the duties of both a SWO/Clerk and an officer.



Job Profile of BANK Clerk/Single Window Operator



The following duties shall form part of the normal duties of the clerical cadre and for the performance of
which no special pay shall be payable.
(a) Acknowledgments of inward mail received.
(b) Receipt of cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders and other like instruments other than bills and
giving acknowledgment in the counterfoil.
(c) Delivery of cheque books subject to authorization by competent authority.
(d) Issue cash receipt.
(e) Issue of ESI stamps wherever applicable or may become applicable.
(f) Recounting of currency notes by cash department staff.
(g) Ensuring the proper contents in covers and envelopes including registered ones before dispatch.

Promotion Chances



A SWO/Clerk can give two exams(JAIIB and CAIIB) to speed up their promotion. 


  • If both the exams are passed, they are eligible to appear for Scale-I after only 2 years and 1 year in some banks.
  • Also if JAIIB is passed, a SWO/Clerk gets 1 increment and when CAIIB is passed, a SWO/Clerk gets 2 increment.
