SSC CGL 2017 vs IBPS PO Preparation: Which is the Better Option?

Hello People.

On deciding that you are interested in a government job, most likely you will be wondering which exam to take up, the SSC CGL 2017 [Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level] or the IBPS PO [Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Probationary Officer]. Well, fret not as we help to steer you to find the right choice.
The SSC CGL 2017 is perhaps the largest government recruitment exam, and aspirants can get a job in one of the various government departments. These include the Central Secretariat Service, Central Vigilance Commission, Intelligence Bureau, CBI, the Ministry of External Affairs, Defence, Railways, etc. The IBPS PO is for those aspirants who are inclined towards a career in banking and provides jobs in government-owned banks.
Listed below are the differences in opportunities between the SSC CGL and the IBPS PO:
1. Work atmosphere: The IBPS bank jobs, are very time-driven and the aspirants go through vigorous training before starting on the job.
2. Working hours: Both the SSC CGL and the IBPS related jobs offer similar working hours.
3. Advancement in work: A government employee will see promotions every 4 to 5 years while a job in banking will provide promotions every 2 to 3 years.
4. Transfers: As with all government jobs transfers are common between the SSC CGL and the IBPS careers. In the case of SSC CGL jobs, the transfers are typically once every four years while in the IBPS jobs, the transfers can take place anywhere between 2 to 5 years.
5. Perks
The SSC CGL jobs offers the following perks
    • Dearness Allowance
    • House Rent Allowance
    • Transport Allowance

IBPS jobs offer the following perks

It is important for the aspirant to decide on the career choice between banking or administrative work in the government department and then plan on taking the corresponding exam.
